In the words of Saturday Night Live character Roseanne Roseannadanna, played by the amazingly talented Gilda Radner, ‘it’s always something.” Roseanne could have been talking about the release of my new book, The Forgotten Years. As I wrote in yesterday’s blog, as I was trying to publish the e-book, Amazon’s program would not let me proofread it. Every time I tried to open the proof, it stopped at 95%. I finally gave up and walked away from it for a while. When I came back, it had gone ahead and published the book without me being able to proofread it.

As it turned out, I wish I would have been able to because none of the page breaks came through, which made it one long document that could be hard to read because of the lack of page formatting. I reloaded the document yesterday morning and ran into the same problem of it going to 95% and stopping when I tried to proof it. But again, it published anyway, though this time with the proper page breaks. If you were one of the first people to order the book and have the problem, deleting it from your Kindle library should let you reload it again and get the updated version. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Once I had that out of the way, I sent out my author’s newsletter announcing the new book. That came with some challenges of its own because my e-mail program didn’t want to cooperate. I think that may have been an internet issue, because after two or three attempts, I finally got it to go. It’s always something.

In the meantime, thank you to everybody who has already downloaded the book and shared links on your social media pages. I very much appreciate all of you.

It’s been raining for two days now, and we didn’t think we would get any trick-or-treaters. We were pretty much right. Nobody showed up until sometime after 9, when four kids came to the door together, with their parents waiting in a car. We had better weather last Halloween, but it was about the same way. I don’t think kids trick-or-treat like they used to. But Miss Terry is wise, and she bought the kind of candy we both like, so it won’t go to waste. 😊

Today is your last chance to enter our Free Drawing for an autographed copy of Bobbi Ann Holmes’ Motherhood a book of poems and whimsical prose, featuring the assortment of poignant experiences unique to women who have loved and nurtured sons and daughters. The range is broad, capturing the swiftness of time, moments of quiet, times of chaos, frantic fear, yet most of all, unconditional love. These are shared experiences, which include the first ride on the school bus, a lost child, tantrums, and warm hugs. The poems touch on the varied emotions that children bring into our hearts.

To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn this evening. Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed. After 30 days, unclaimed prizes revert back to the drawing pool for a future contest.

Did you know that you can find all of my books and sign up for my free author’s newsletter on my website at www.nickrussellbooks.com?

And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us. I’ll have a double earthworm. Hold the mayo, please.

Thought For The Day – I’m pretty sure I was the total package at one time. But shipping and handling damaged me. Now I’m a scratch-and-dent item, sold as-is.
