Mini-Split For Maxi Comfort

Besides a regular whole house air conditioner and furnace, our house also came with a mini-split unit in the bedroom, which provides both heat and air conditioning. If you’re not familiar with mini-splits, and I wasn’t until fairly recently, they are a ductless heating and cooling system. They have two main parts: an outdoor compressor and an indoor air handler. Thin lines link the two units through a small hole in the wall. They come in different sizes and are basically for one room or one area of a home.

Our garage is about 450 square feet and I wanted something for it because during the summer it’s too uncomfortable to do much of anything out there. So yesterday we had the father and son team of Jeff and Cristian Sainz-Valdez from MiniSplit Comfort install a unit in the garage.

It took them a couple of hours, and when they were done, we were very pleased with the results. It was a hot day, somewhere in the 90s, and our garage is not insulated. It has a standard metal door that soaks up heat. But setting the thermostat at 77° and leaving it for two or three hours brought the temperature right down. I’m definitely impressed.

So impressed that they’re having them come back today to relocate the outside of our bedroom unit to a hanging wall bracket, like the one in the picture above, which will get it off the ground and away from dirt and such. They will service both it and our big house air conditioning unit. It’s always good to find hard-working people you can trust who show up on time and do the job right.
