Freezing And Sealing

No, I’m not complaining about the weather. I’m talking about some of Miss Terry’s recent activities. As I’ve shared before, last summer I got her a Harvest Right freeze dryer for her birthday. She’s been happily freeze-drying all kinds of fruits, vegetables, and other things since then. But she’s always looking to up her game, and recently she ordered an Avid Armor vacuum sealer. She already has a small sealer for the bags she uses with the freeze-dryer, but this new unit is much larger and far superior, and even allows her to vacuum seal Mason jars.

A few days ago she put some sliced tomatoes, mangoes, bananas, and pineapple pieces in the freeze dryer. When they were done some 40 hours later, she canned them in jars using the Avid Armor sealer. She says they will last for years when processed this way, but having tasted the mangoes, pineapples, and bananas, I guarantee you they’re not going to be around that long! They are great freeze-dried and rehydrated, but even straight from the freeze dryer, they’re still yummy treats. 😊

In other news, I spent most of yesterday putting together the handout for my speaking engagement at the Arizona Professional Writers Conference in Scottsdale this coming Saturday. Though I have presented seminars and spoken to audiences with over a thousand people attending, it’s been a long time since I’ve done so. Especially one as esteemed as this group of authors and writers, and I’ll admit I’m a bit nervous about it. Hopefully I can make my presentation worth their time.

Congratulations, Norman Sullivan, winner of our drawing for an autographed copy of Randy Attwood’s Crazy About You. Service brats grow up on military bases. Asylum brats grow up on the grounds of mental hospitals where their parents work. Both juveniles and adults will be riveted by the story of high school asylum brat Brad’s week in 1964 that tests his sanity and grows him up faster than he ever wished.

He thinks he’s in love with the schizophrenic teen, Suzanne, who has to be tied up to keep from picking her palms until they bleed. Only Brad believes her story that she is trying to cleanse her palms of her father’s semen. And only Brad believes he has the plan to save her when her father wants her released back into his care. But then the brutal murder of a townswoman and the missing status of her daughter, a nurse at the mental hospital, rivets the town’s attention. The lit fuses hit the dynamite on prom night when a group of patients in the building for the criminally insane hold guards hostage, and Alex Krout, squealing in his cell, waits for his chance to run amok.

We had 43 entries this time around. Stay tuned, a new contest starts soon! Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed. After 30 days, unclaimed prizes revert back to the drawing pool for a future contest.

  1. You have done this before, and we have seen you do it.
Instead of going long form, simply write point cards, so you make it sounds like a casual conversation. That will be more impressive than a word for word script that will put them to sleep. You’ve got this.
    Stay Safe and Enjoy!

    It’s about time.

  2. You are so entertaining with your writing, I can only imagine how great it will be in person! You will do great!
