I guess I’m going to jail. Check out this text message I received yesterday:

Final Notice: Unpaid Traffic Violation – Payment Required by December 29, 2025
This communication serves as a final notice regarding an outstanding traffic violation penalty. In accordance with IndianaCode § 9-30-5-8, failure to remit payment by the specified deadline will result in the initiation of enforcement actions.
Payment Deadline: December 29, 2025
Failure to resolve the outstanding balance by the due date may result in the following administrative and legal consequences:
1. Reporting of the violation to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV)
2. Automatic suspension of vehicle registration, effective December 30, 2025
3. Mandatory driver’s license suspension for a minimum of 30 days
4. Referral of the account to a designated collections agency, with potential imposition of additional fees up to 35%
5. Initiation of legal proceedings and reporting to credit reporting agencies, which may negatively impact creditworthiness
To avoid these consequences, payment must be made promptly through the official Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) online portal. (I deleted the portal email address because it was spam).

I haven’t been in Indiana in over eight years and have never received any kind of traffic violation there. Obviously it’s a scam, but I’m sure some people will fall for it. But if by chance I’m wrong, I hope they don’t put me in a cell with Sweaty Eddie. If anybody wants to set up a GoFundMe page to raise enough money to spring me, or maybe send me a cake with a file in it, I would appreciate it. Little fat guys like me don’t stand a chance in the slam.

In other news, thanks to the support of all my wonderful readers out there, my newest book, Big Lake Parolee, made it to the number one spot on Amazon a couple of days ago. You folks are the best.

Did you know that you can find all of my books and sign up for my free author’s newsletter on my website at www.nickrussellbooks.com?

Be sure to enter our latest Free Drawing. This week’s prize is a book from my personal library, The Hunt for History: On the Trail of the World’s Lost Treasures. Rare documents dealer Nathan Raab recounts his years as the Sherlock Holmes of historical artifacts, searching for precious finds and determining their authenticity, including a box uncovered in a Maine attic with letters written by Alexander Hamilton or a handheld address to Congress by President George Washington. Other finds include a long-lost Gold Medal that belonged to an American President; a note Winston Churchill wrote to his captor when he was a young POW in South Africa; paperwork signed and filled out by Amelia Earhart when she became the first woman to fly the Atlantic; and a flag carried to the moon and back by Neil Armstrong.

Raab is a modern-day treasure who travels the country and fields phone calls and emails from people who think they may have found something of note in a grandparent’s attic. Whether it’s the first report of Napoleon’s death or an unpublished letter penned by Albert Einstein to a curious soldier, every document and artifact Raab uncovers has a spellbinding story and often offers new insights into a life we thought we knew.

To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn this evening. Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books and audiobooks to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed.

And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us. You’d better scoop up this deal while you can!

Thought For The Day – Here’s another wonderful day ruined by adulting.

  1. We’ve had a few of those exact emails, but at least they got our state right!

  2. I did not get a blog on Saturday, Jnuary 10 and wondered why. I check my SPAM box every Tuesday and there it was with a “Possible SPAM” note next to it. I guess the SPAM in your e-mail got caught!
