Family Time Is The Best Time

With overnight temperatures down as low as 12 degrees and daytime temperatures that never got above freezing, we have stayed home for the last few days. I mean, what sane person would go out in that kind of weather? But it’s supposed to be 40 degrees today, and slowly warming up from there. The overnight temperatures will still be down in the teens for a few days. It goes without saying, I highly disapprove. ☹

Besides everything else that she does every day to keep our house and business running smoothly, Terry has been helping me get my office organized and some of the pictures and the rest of my badge collection ready to hang up.

The other day she also hung my .50 Thompson Center Hawken black powder rifle above the closet in my office. It’s a long, heavy rifle, and though I’ve had the thing for close to eight years, I have never shot it. I just like the looks of it. One of these days we need to take it out to the range and test fire it because Kenny has been talking about using it to go elk and deer hunting. That works for me because if he gets one, I get some delicious fresh game meat. Kenny takes care of his family.

Speaking of family, yesterday Kenny, Tiffany, granddaughter Hailey and her husband Toby came over for dinner. Terry made delicious shrimp and grits, and they were a hit with everybody. Hailey is about halfway through her first pregnancy and is looking forward to it being over. You can see by the look between her and Toby that when the little guy gets here, he is going to be surrounded by love.

Later on, when someone suggested we all go out for ice cream, I broke my diet and said, “Sure, why not?” Wait a minute. Eating ice cream when it’s this cold? Oh, the things I do for my family. It’s the first time I’ve had ice cream in a year, and I will say it was delicious. But I won’t be doing that again anytime soon. It was worth some extra calories to have even more time with the kids before the evening ended. Family time really is the best time.
