Bad Santa

In a blog a couple of weeks ago, I told you about being at the post office in Show Low, Arizona, and seeing two little kids who looked at my white beard and wondered if I was Santa Claus. I told them I was, and that the clothes I was wearing was how I dress when I’m off duty. They seemed to be excited, and both gave me a hug after their parents said it was okay to do so.

But sometimes St. Nick allows a little bit of Bad Nick to slip through the cracks. The other day I had to go to the UPS store to return some things to Amazon, and I happened to be wearing a red sweatshirt. I heard a little girl standing in line with her grandmother asking her, “Does Santa Claus have to return things, too?”

I told her that yes, I did, but I blamed it on Rudolph. I said that the reason his nose is so red is because he drinks a lot, and every once in a while, he gets a snootful on Christmas Eve and goes to the wrong houses and people get the wrong gifts. Then I have to send them back to the North Pole to get the right ones. Grandma told me I was a bad Santa. But she said it with a smile, so I guess it’s all good.
