After spending several days downloading drivers and trying all kinds of suggested remedies, I finally gave up and decided I needed to upgrade my sick computer’s software to Windows 11, hoping that would clear up the issues I had been experiencing. Several people told me it was very easy, but I also have known quite a few people who had all kinds of problems after upgrading from Windows 10. However, those were all in the early days of 11 so I was hopeful I wouldn’t run into too many glitches.
Microsoft advised backing up my computer before I did the upgrade, so I did that Saturday night, saving everything I could to two different Seagate portable hard drives. Then yesterday I crossed my fingers and hit the upgrade button, expecting the worst but hoping for the best.
The process took a little under two hours, and I was delighted that everything went smoothly. I didn’t seem to lose any data, and all of my programs continue to work except for Wispr Flow, which I’m having issues with. This really upsets me because I’ve come to depend on it for narration. It’s quicker and easier to use than the narration option in Microsoft Word and much better than messing around with Dragon Naturally Speaking. So I need to try to get that resolved.
Even so, I was able to dictate another 2,500 words in my new Big Lake book yesterday afternoon and evening. I’ve still got a long way to go but I’m liking the story already!
