Road Trip

We were up early yesterday morning because we had to get packed up and ready to make a road trip down to the Phoenix area. Tiffany came over and visited for a little while before we left, then she and Kenny were coming back to stay at our house and take care of the critters while we are gone.

We left about 1:30 and took US Highway 60 south from ShowLow through the winding Salt River Canyon and all the way to Globe. Globe made national news recently because of massive flooding that tore through the town, damaging much of the historic district. In Globe, the highway turns west, and while we couldn’t see a lot of evidence of the flood from the highway, we did notice a lot of debris in the dry riverbeds, which weren’t so dry just a few days ago.

Terry was driving, and according to the dashboard, the Subaru was getting over 34 miles per gallon. The more she drives this car, the more she likes it, and I sure enjoy riding in it. I have only driven it twice myself, once during the test drive with the salesman, and again to run an errand the last time we were here in the Phoenix area.

We got to Apache Junction about 4:30 and checked into the Residence Inn near Banner Hospital. This is our first time staying at this location, and though it was a little more money than the La Quinta where we normally stay, it’s much closer to Terry’s parents. And while La Quinta only has single rooms, we have a suite with a living room, bedroom, and even a small kitchen that includes a full-size refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher. Pretty cool.

Once we got the car unloaded and checked into the room, we drove the short distance to Terry’s parents’ house and visited with them for a while. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped and got a quick bite to eat.

Terry has an appointment at the Mayo Hospital this afternoon, and while we’re near there, I need to stop at Dillon to pick up one item for our 550 reloading press. Fortunately, they are only a few miles apart, and Dillon is right on the way to the hospital.
