We had to make a quick trip down to the Valley for an appointment with Terry’s new gastro doctor at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. As I have shared with readers before, the intense radiation required to save her life from cancer back in 2000 left her with terrible internal scarring that has caused all kinds of issues since then.
William Hessler, her new doctor at Mayo, really impressed us. He spent over an hour with us going over her medical history, discussing the different methods that have been tried to ease her discomfort in the past, and suggested some new non-invasive ones. By the time we left, we both felt very optimistic with the direction he wants to take her care.
We have some friends down in the area that we really want to get together with, but it wasn’t going to happen this trip because there just wasn’t time. We managed to visit with Terry’s folks, she made dinner of delicious breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches, and before we left to come home yesterday, she French toast for breakfast and cut her dad’s hair.
The in-home hospice care nurse came while we were there and talked to us a little bit. She is very good with Bess, Terry’s mother, and you can tell she really cares about her patients. Bess is still fighting the good fight and is determined to stay as active as she can for as long as she can, even if that includes doing things like making the bed when she’s told not to. I told Terry that I know she would be the same way in her mom’s position. Some women just don’t know the meaning of the word “stop.”
Kenny and Tiffany were here at the house when we got home a little after 5, and once we unloaded the Subaru, we all piled in the truck and went to La Casita Mexican restaurant for dinner. Our granddaughter Destiny works there. She’s so busy between completing her senior year of high school, taking cosmetology classes at the community college, and working that the only way we can see her is to catch her on the job.
