Family Fun (And Not So Fun)

We love having so much of our family close to us. There is always something fun going on. The other day, granddaughter Destiny stopped by after work and spent an hour or two with us. She is an amazing young lady. She’s in her senior year of high school and goes to class during the morning, and in the afternoons she goes to nearby Northland Pioneer College where she is taking classes in cosmetology. When she graduates this spring, she will be ready to go to work in her chosen profession. And as if that wasn’t enough, she also works in a restaurant in the evenings and on Saturdays. This girl is going to go places in life.

Now, let’s talk about her big sister Hailey. As I told you a week or so ago, we found out that Hailey is going to be giving us our first great-grandchild next year. She works as a dog groomer and absolutely loves animals, whether it’s her horse, her dogs, her cats and tropical fish, or all of the critters she takes care of while she’s at work.

But a couple of nights ago, she had an encounter with an animal that she doesn’t need to repeat anytime soon. Her dogs had gotten tangled up with a skunk, and if you’ve never been a pregnant young woman dealing with morning sickness and all that and then had to try to clean dogs that have been sprayed, it’s not fun. It got so bad she called her Mom at night and asked them to come over and help out since her husband was still at work. Tiffany and Kenny took pity on her and did the best they could to get the worst of the smell gone.

Tiffany and Kenny came over yesterday and spent most of the afternoon with us, and then we went to a Mexican restaurant called Los Corrales. They ordered a dish that the menu calls Molcajete For Two. It contained strips of boneless chicken, beef, cactus leaves, chorizo and shrimp, grilled with green onions and smothered in a special sauce, served with guacamole and sour cream. It also came with tortillas, rice and refried beans. They say the dish is for two, but even with Terry helping, the three of them hardly made a dent in it. As for me, I ordered the butterfly shrimp, and I won’t do that again. The shrimp itself didn’t taste bad, but there was so much breading on it that I had to work hard to actually get to the meat. I finally gave up and didn’t finish it.
