The Search Was In Vain

Our Alabama house and our Florida house before that were much bigger than our new place here in Arizona, but we have reached the age where we were ready to downsize. Of course, downsizing means everything you have isn’t going to fit in a smaller space. That’s just basic physics.

One of the things we don’t have room for here is Terry’s big desk which she used before the move. It was large and was actually made-up of three pieces, and it fit very well in a corner in our big offices at the other places. But we need to find something smaller for here, so yesterday we hit all of the antique shops and consignment stores in the area, looking for something that would work for her. As it turned out, the search was in vain, but at least we became familiar with some of the businesses that didn’t exist when we lived here before, over 26 years ago.

Even so, the day wasn’t a total bust. While we were in Pinetop, we stopped at Classic Canine to visit with our granddaughter Hailey for a few minutes. She was just finishing up working on Sasha, her own dog, and they posed for a picture for me. While we were there a couple of customers came in to pick up their pets after being groomed and it was obvious they are impressed with Hailey’s skills. We are, too.

On our way back to Show Low we stopped at Home Depot to look for sliding glass shower doors for our walk in shower, as well as a screened security door. We have four doors in our house, three of which have the security doors, and we want to add one more. It’s so nice to leave the regular doors open and let the mountain air in, something we couldn’t do in Alabama because of all of the bugs. They didn’t have the shower door kit in the size we need, and we looked at several security doors but had to come home and do some measuring before we decided what would work best. While we were there, we also picked up four more chairs for the back deck.

I love sitting out there tossing a toy for Alli to chase across our big fenced in backyard. A couple of days ago I hung Terry’s big Wind River Corinthian Bells wind chimes. I had previously hung the smaller set, as well as a set of bamboo wind chimes. When the wind blows it’s very musical around here. 😊

When we left Alabama, Terry brought six big planters that had some blueberry plants, a dwarf fig, some thornless blackberries, and some azaleas. I noticed the other day that one of the azalea plants was in bloom, and it sure is pretty.
