We were not looking forward to going to the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles office to get our driver’s licenses and registrations changed over from Alabama. Those things always seem to take forever. But we lucked out because when we got to the office yesterday afternoon there were several people ahead of us, but the line moved very quickly. Even better, daughter Tiffany had told us she hoped we got to deal with one of the employees there named Kristina, and as luck would have it, that’s whose window we got called to.

Kristina has known Tiffany for quite a while, and her daughter Kennedy was one of the kids at the high school that Tiffany kind of took under her wing. As soon as I told her who we were, it was like old home week. She told us Tiffany had been in contact with her while she and Kenny were helping us move here from Alabama and she already knew all about us and our move. She was a delight to work with, and in less than an hour from the time we walked in, we left the office with our driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations changed, my handicapped parking permits, and registered to vote. Thanks Kristina, for making everything so easy for us, we really appreciate it. Now we are legal and official Arizonians once more.

When we were finished there, we went to State Farm Insurance to give them our new Arizona driver’s license numbers, and who should walk in within just a few minutes of our arrival but Tiffany and her daughter Britni. You can’t hide for long in a small town! 😊

Our next stop was to check out a place called Bin Time. They deal in closeout merchandise from places like Amazon and Target, and everything is piled into bins in the store and you get to sort through them and look for the bargains. We didn’t find anything we needed but it was fun looking.

From there we went to White Mountain Books, a very nice used bookstore with an impressive selection of reading material and media. I introduced myself to the owner and we chatted for a bit and he invited me to bring some of my books in and he would display him in their local authors section. While we were there Terry picked up three interesting cookbooks and I picked up a travel book.

Our last stop for the day was at Safeway, where Terry bought a couple of pork shoulders because she wants to make green chili pork posole in the next few days. It’s one of my favorite dishes and I’m looking forward to it.

Back at home, we had garlic aioli for dinner, another of my favorites. Later on I was out watering the plants in the front yard when a couple of neighbors, Tom and Barbara, stopped by on their walk to introduce themselves and we chatted for a few minutes. Just a few days after we got here our granddaughter Hailey was visiting,and her husband Toby, who is a Show Low police officer, was on duty and stopped by to pick up something from her. Barbara said she was glad to know who he was because the first thing that went through the neighbors’ minds was that we’d only been here a couple of days and already the cops were here on our quiet little street checking us out. 😊

A little while later we were in the backyard watering the plants there when Tiffany and her daughter Destiny showed up with a cake Destiny had made for us. It was delicious and we had a nice little visit. It sure is good to have our family so close by and dropping in often.
