A Guy Day

Son-in-law Kenny really wants to get into reloading ammunition for target shooting and we’ve been talking about different options when it comes to the equipment needed. I used to reload years ago but have forgotten most of what I knew back then. We pretty much had settled on a Dillon reloading press. They have a lifetime guarantee, and Dillon probably has the best reputation of all manufacturers out there. Of course, that kind of quality comes with a premium price. But a couple of days ago Kenny found a killer deal on a used Dillon press for sale on Facebook Marketplace. It was in Payson, about 90 miles  east west of us, and we decided to take a ride over there and check it out yesterday.

As it turned out, the press was an incredible deal because the seller threw in all kinds of extras, including enough empty cases and components to keep us reloading and shooting for a long time. We wasted no time in buying it.

Since we were in town, we decided to check out a couple of the local gun shops, and that turned out to be a very good idea, too, because at the second one we came to I saw this stainless-steel Ruger .44 magnum Super Blackhawk at a very good price. I have been looking for one of these in that barrel length for well over a year now and this was the first one I actually saw in person, not on the internet. Even though the price was very good, I thought I would give it a shot and ask if the seller could do any better, and he knocked another $50 off. How cool was that? Obviously, it came home with us. Anyone familiar with handguns will tell you that a .44 magnum has quite a bit of recoil, especially in a short barrel. But I don’t care, because I will be shooting .44 Special ammunition in it instead, which is a lighter load without as much recoil.

Tiffany was at our house when we got back home, and we figured since we had had fun all day, we should probably take the ladies out to dinner. We had pizza at Pitalian, a local place in the Fairfield Inn. It was very good, and it’s always fun spending time with the kids. Even if the kids are all grown up and have grown up kids of their own these days.

All in all, it was a great guy day and I enjoyed spending time with Kenny. We’re going to have another one today because we’re going to the gun show in Snowflake. I’ve got a couple that I’m going to take and try to trade off if I can find something else that I like better.
