74 Years

We are down in the Apache Junction area spending some time with Terry’s mom and dad, Pete and Bess Weber. We are enjoying visiting with them, and they are enjoying some of Terry’s kitchen magic. Yesterday she made chicken parmesan for dinner, which was delicious, and then she topped it off with some of her amazing cinnamon rolls for dessert. As always, they were a big hit.

We timed our visit right, because we got to spend a very special day with them. Yesterday was their 74th wedding anniversary. At 95 years old, Pete still gets around very well and stays as active as possible, and he says that at 93, Bess is still the prettiest girl he ever met.

As I have mentioned before, Bess is in in-home Hospice care, and Pete is happy to be her primary caregiver. She is doing very well, much better than we had anticipated, actually. While we were there yesterday, one of the Hospice social workers stopped in for a brief visit to check on her and tomorrow the nurse will re-examine her. I have known many people who work in Hospice and have tremendous respect for all of them. It’s not a job everybody can do.

If you have ever heard someone say something is hotter than blazes, that’s a good description of the entire Phoenix area right now. Yesterday was 110°, and at 11:30 last night it was still 101°. Today will be even worse, as they are predicting 113°. Yeah, but it’s a dry heat, right? I imagine it’s pretty dry inside of a blast furnace, too, but it will still kill you. We are staying hydrated, and as much as we enjoy being with Terry’s parents, we are looking forward to getting back to the cooler temperatures in the White Mountains.
