Mud, Mud, And More Mud

The weatherman didn’t lie Thursday night when he said we had more rain coming our way. It started to come down around midnight and poured most of the night, accompanied by occasional thunder. By morning all the raw dirt in our backyard and pasture from laying the new septic field lines was a sea of mud.

Thick, gluey, clay mud that you sink down into with every step, and  tries to pull your shoes or boots right off your feet. What a mess!

To make matters even more fun, if that’s what you want to call it, much of the trench that was dug to lay the new gas line is collapsing from all the water. It’s definitely going to take a long time to get things cleaned up.

Danny Kelley called me in the morning to tell me that he had a truckload of gravel to put down on the east perimeter road so the propane truck can get in to fill our new tank. But obviously that’s going to have to wait a while, too, so he doesn’t get stuck trying to dump it. Everything’s on hold, waiting to dry out.

Fortunately, I have a lot to keep me busy here in the house. Roberta returned several more chapters for Big Lake Accident that she had proofread and I made her changes, then I wrote another 2,500 words yesterday. It’s still very wet outside so I’m back at it again today.

Be sure to enter our latest Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of my friend USA Today bestselling author Suzie O’Connell’s Starlight Magic, from her popular Northstar romance series. Two months after her husband’s violent death, Celeste is teetering on the edge, and she can’t engage in the art that was once her escape from the world. She desperately needs a tranquil place to rebuild herself. An extended visit with her friend in Northstar will give her that… and her charming new neighbor might give her something even better.

To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening. Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed. After 90 days, unclaimed prizes revert back to the drawing pool for a future contest.

And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.

  1. You now mention Roberta proofreading but not Bernie. Is she OK?

  2. My coiusin Bernie is not a proofreasder, but she is doing fine. Judy Rinehimer and Ro9berta Jensen are my proofreaders after Terry does the first edits.
