I apologize for not having a blog yesterday but it was beyond our control. We were watching television about 9:30 on Tuesday evening when the power went out. A short but strong storm came through the area with a lot of wind and lightning. It was an offshoot of a bigger storm system that was north of us, but enough to bring down some more tree branches and zap the power lines. I’m glad it happened in the evening when it wasn’t quite so hot because the power wasn’t back on until early the next morning.
But we are back, and just to give you something to start your day off with a smile, how about a couple of kissing kittens? That’s BeeBee on the left and Mai Lin on the right. Though she might be the smaller of the two, Mai Lin can be a little hellion. For every tender moment like this there are a hundred where she is irritating BeeBee or Alli, wanting them to play with her. But she can have her sweet moments too when she curls up on your lap and wants to be petted. Well, until she’s done with you and then she gets up and walks away without a backward glance! Kind of reminds me of some women I have known.
When I took Alli out yesterday morning, I noticed this big fungus that seemed to have sprouted overnight. I’m not sure what it is but I don’t care because I don’t eat mushrooms anyhow. All I know about them is that some people like to eat them, some will make you high, and some will kill you. I’ll pass.
Travis, Geli, and Miss Terry do like mushrooms, and this is one of the oyster mushrooms that the kids grew and that managed to survive the storm that tore up so much of their gardens. I hear they are good eating but I’ll never know.
It’s Thursday, so it’s time for a new Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of Hands of Onyx, book 2 in the Sav’ine series by Stacy Bender. It’s a story about cybernetic soldiers escorting a long haul space freighter to the outer rim planets, dealing with saboteurs who are trying to stop them and a crew that includes a half-blind medic, an explosives expert who is a sociopath, and an interrogator suffering from dementia. What could possibly go wrong?
To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening. Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books and audiobooks to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed. After 90 days, unclaimed prizes revert back to the drawing pool for a future contest.
And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.
Thought For The Day – Whether you give a crap or don’t give a crap doesn’t matter, because nobody wants your crap anyway!
i am looking forward to the essays that could be written on the salt and pepper picture!
