A Productive Day

Yesterday turned out to be a very productive day for us, even in ways we did not expect. The day started out just as hot and humid as it has been. When I let Alli out to go potty about 7:30 I could already feel the heat starting to build. We sure are glad we got the Black + Decker portable air conditioner, because so far it is doing an excellent job of keeping our office comfortable.

Terry finished editing and proofreading six new chapters of my next Big Lake book, and by the time she was done with that I had two more chapters written, so then she did them. I went through and made all of the corrections she suggested to the eight chapters, then sent them off to Judy and Roberta, my other two proofreaders. I am over 80,000 words into the book now and will be wrapping it up soon and getting it ready to publish.

During the afternoon, a storm system came through east of us, and though we didn’t get anything out of it, it did drop the temperature dramatically. All the way down from the mid-90s to 77 degrees. When Mother Nature gives you a gift like that, you don’t ignore it.

We took advantage of the cooler temperatures to roll up the rest of the deer fencing from around the garden. Then I used the brush hog on my Kubota tractor to clean up around where the fence had been, as well as an area on the hill beside the garden that I couldn’t get to before because there wasn’t enough room to turn around with the fence in place.

While I was doing that, Terry was using a weed eater and an electric grass clipper to tidy things up in the garden that I couldn’t get close enough to with the tractor.

I decided since I was on the tractor I might as well do some more mowing, since the grass was getting high in the pasture again. When she was finished in the garden, Terry got on the Husqvarna riding mower and did some mowing in the yard and around the outer edges of the garden. Alli loves it when I am on the tractor and seems to never stop running trying to keep up with me.

The problem with all that mowing is that then you have big piles of grass everywhere, so we loaded up the back of the Kawasaki Mule several times and I took it all down to the far end of the pasture and dumped it. I need to get the rake on the back of the tractor and go over the whole thing.

In a blog the other day I told you that while Scott and Alan Banks were here building our deck, they pulled down the top half of the tree that was just hanging after being broken off in a storm.

I used the bucket loader on the front of the tractor to push it across the perimeter road and out of the way. I’m amazed at what this so-called “little” tractor can do!

When I got done with that I told Terry that I felt so macho that you could almost taste the testosterone in the air! 😊

Today is supposed to be another hot one, but we’re looking forward to meeting our dear friends Aaron Borovoy and Peter Ambrose for an early dinner in Northport. They are headed home to Florida on the last leg of an RV trip that has taken them through several states and to a lot of adventures. They are great guys and we always have a good time getting together with them.

Congratulations Carol Jennings, winner of our drawing for an autographed copy of Terry’s cookbook, Miss Terry’s Kitchen, full of delightful and delicious recipes that are sure to make you a hit with your family and friends.

We had 136 entries this time around. Stay tuned, a new contest starts soon, Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books and audiobooks to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed. After 90 days, unclaimed prizes revert back to the drawing pool for a future contest.

And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.
