Sunday Q&A

I’m back with more questions from blog readers about RVing, my writing activities, what’s happening in our lives since we hung up the keys, and all kinds of other things. While I try to answer all questions individually, I also share some here occasionally.

Q. When you first moved to rural Alabama you said you could not get cable internet. We are in the same situation here in Tennessee. We have good cell phone signals but I keep getting throttled using my phone as a hotspot. I think you said something about getting some kind of standalone hotspot. What is it and how has it worked out?

A. We are using a T Mobile hotspot and have been very satisfied with it. Speeds are excellent, it has unlimited data, and at $50 a month, it costs a lot less than we were paying for Spectrum internet.

Q. We keep wondering how to say your daughter-in-law’s name. How is Geli pronounced?

A. I had a hard time figuring that out until we actually met her. It is pronounced like Sheila but with a soft G instead of an SH, or Gee-La.

Q. Curious as to why you didn’t get a zero-turn mower instead of a riding mower. They cost a little more but are much more comfortable and efficient.

A. I did consider a zero-turn, but several people, including a dealer who sells both, said that it would not be safe and prone to turn over on the steep hillside next to our garage and the one on the other side of the house.

Q. Some time back you bought a new office chair to help your bad back. You couldn’t say enough nice things about it. I have reached the age that I need such a chair (83). Could you please provide the information for your chair?

A. It is a Lifeform executive office chair from Relax The Back and I am still very happy with it. Here is a link to it. https://relaxtheback.com/products/lifeform-ultimate-mid-back-executive-office-chair?variant=14774508322875

Q. As much as you love dogs, Nick, how come you haven’t gotten one yet? It’s not like where you lived before where the management would not allow that German shepherd you had for just a day.

A. I love dogs and Terry loves cats. But we have both experienced the pain of losing an animal that we loved and I’m not sure we want to go through that again. But who knows? I guess it could happen if the right four-legged critter came along and captured our hearts.

Today is your last chance to enter our Free Drawing for a USB drive loaded with all of the digital back issues of the Gypsy Journal RV travel newspaper for the years 2003 through 2017. They are in PDF format and will provide you with weeks of great reading about places to visit from coast to coast and our adventures as fulltime RVers. The normal cost of the back issue collection is $75. To enter, all you have to do is click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn this evening. Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed.

And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.

Thought For The Day – If you think I’m crazy, you should meet my relatives. I had to adapt to my surroundings to survive!

  1. Nick, I’m also using a T-Mobile WiFi Hotspot but mine has a 100gb/month limit. I’ve checked with T-Mobile and that’s the maximum they offer in AZ. I pay $70/mo for that. I kept hitting my limit so the only solution I had was another Hotspot with 50gb for $50/mo.What plan do you have that’s unlimited data for $50/mo??

  2. Bob Derivan -https://calyxinstitute.org/membership/internet is what we use. It is on T-Mobile, unlimited and legit. You can check https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/ and they use it.
