Spring is here and things are greening up at our place. What were bare trees just a few weeks ago are now covered in leaves, the grass is growing fast, and it’s absolutely beautiful. Sometimes Terry and I sit on our back deck and look out on our little piece of heaven and think how fortunate we are to be here and to be together to share this.
Even the area where they regraded our backyard and took off so much topsoil then covered it with straw and grass seed, is starting to stabilize and we are seeing grass coming through the straw in more and more places. All of this rain we have been getting definitely makes a difference. We’re always seeing a lot of birds here, and yesterday a cardinal stopped by for a visit.
We do need a few days without rain so we can get the garden planted, but it doesn’t look like that will happen until probably about Monday. I also need to take my tractor over to Travis’ house to help him get a couple of stubborn tree stumps out of the ground.
In the last few days Terry and I have both had a nasty bout of stomach flu, and that’s something I don’t want to experience again anytime soon. Believe it or not, I actually went for more than two days without eating anything at all. I bet if I did that for two or three months I might lose a couple of inches off my waistline.
To add to the misery, I couldn’t keep anything down, including my daily medications or even some arthritis pain relief pills, so my back has been giving me a lot of pain and I’m back to using my cane to get around. Whoever said getting old wasn’t for sissies was definitely telling the truth!
In spite of still not feeling great, yesterday I was able to add another chapter to my new Tinder Street book, and then read through and corrected four more chapters and printed them out for Terry to edit and proofread. When she was done with them, I sent them off to Judy and Roberta. Judy is presently playing tourist in Australia, but she still found time to edit and proofread them. What a trooper!
Be sure to enter our latest Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an RV camping journal donated by Barbara House. Barbara makes several variations of these, and they all have pages where you can list the date, weather, where you traveled to and from that day, beginning and ending mileage, campground information including amenities at RV sites, a place for campground reviews, room to record activities, people met along the way, reminders of places to see and things to do the next time you’re in the area, and a page for notes for each day.
To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening. Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed.
And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.
Thought For The Day – Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong, but you just breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.
