When I woke up yesterday morning my hopes that the last few days of good weather would help dry out our ground were dashed when I looked outside and saw that it had rained again overnight and we had more pools of water to deal with. How fun. ☹ If it would ever start to dry out, I have some ideas on how to mitigate the standing water. But until then all we can do is grin and bear it.
Everybody tells us the almost nonstop rains we have been experiencing since we bought our place are not common here, and even people who have lived in the area all their lives are wondering what’s got Mother Nature’s panties in a knot to cause it.
As if that wasn’t enough, the weatherman tells us that we have some strong storms coming through the area today, with the threat of heavy rain, hail, high winds, and even the possibility of a tornado. I sure am glad we have our tornado shelter in place, just in case. We are hoping it doesn’t get that bad, but it’s nice to be prepared. Our son Travis and his wife Geli live about fifteen minutes away and I called and told them to come over if things start looking like they could go bad.
I guess it could be worse. Our old hometown of Show Low, Arizona got about a foot of snow, as this photo that our daughter sent me shows. I shoveled a lot of snow back in my younger days and don’t want to have to do that ever again.
We made a few changes to our house in the last couple of days, including putting new drawer pulls on the cabinets in both of our bathrooms. We actually bought them before we went back to Florida for our last load, but the screws that came with them were too short, so we had to go back to Lowes and get longer ones when we were in town the other day.
Terry wanted to get some floor coverings for our living room, so while we were at Lowes we also bought two matching area rugs. One is in front of our recliners, where we watch television at night.
The other is smaller and is near the front entry. I really like them, and Terry and I agree that they add a feeling of warmth to the room.
The 10% Military Discount that Lowes gives to veterans really helps on large purchases like this. Between the rugs and a couple of other things we bought while we were there, they knocked over $70 off the bill. I sure can’t complain about that.
And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.
