Our lawn sprinkler system stopped working a while back, and I couldn’t figure out why. I checked the timer, and it seemed to be rotating okay, but the water would not come on at the set time. I noticed that a lot of bushes were growing up right in front of where the timer box was, so the other day we trimmed them back, and it took sharp-eyed Miss Terry about 30 seconds to realize what the problem was. A broken PVC fitting that screws into the outlet side of the box. When the sprinkler was due to come on, there was not enough pressure to force the water down the line to the sprinkler heads, and the water was just trickling out down the broken fitting, which was causing the bushes to grow up so fast.
I looked around in my stash of plumbing supplies, and though I have several lengths of the PVC pipe, I don’t have a couple of the slip joints and the screw-on fitting that I need to fix the problem. So while we are down in Titusville today for Terry’s pre-op appointment for her upcoming cataract surgery, we will go to Lowe’s and pick up what we need and a couple of other items Terry wants to get. It should be a quick and easy fix, and I know our grass and citrus trees will surely appreciate having the sprinklers working again.
Hopefully, we’ll get back home in time to get some more of the final read-through of my new John Lee Quarrels book done. I am eager to get it out, as well as to get started on my next Big Lake book.
And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.
