All Kinds Of Birds

If you are a bird watcher or just enjoy all kinds of wildlife, our home on Florida’s central Atlantic Coast is a great place to be. From alligators, dolphins, and manatees, along with all kinds of fish, the Intracoastal Waterway 800 yards from our house is loaded with marine life.

And when it comes to birds, boy, do we have birds! You name it, and we’ve got them. Hawks, osprey, seagulls, and pelicans, just to name a few.

We have some resident sandhill cranes that wander around the neighborhood all the time, and you have to stop your car for them because they are not going to hurry out of your way.

When I went out onto the carport right outside my office door yesterday, this big egret was standing right there and startled me. What beautiful birds! It wandered around the yard for a while and I got a few pictures before it started raining again, and I went back inside.

Then, at 11:41 last night, an entirely different bird was flying through the sky. This is a Space X rocket taking a bunch of Starlink satellites into orbit. I took the picture with my cell phone, so it’s not great, but they are always a thrill to see when they lift off.

Monday morning, they are launching the Artemis rocket, which they say is the biggest rocket ever launched, at 322 feet. It is supposed to go to the moon, make an orbit and then return to earth. It’s the prelude to a manned flight to the moon planned for 2025.

And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.

Today is your last chance to enter our Free Drawing for an RV camping journal donated by Barbara House. Barbara makes several variations of these, and they all have pages where you can list the date, weather, where you traveled to and from that day, beginning and ending mileage, campground information including amenities at RV sites, a place for campground reviews, room to record activities, people met along the way, reminders of places to see and things to do the next time you’re in the area, and a page for notes for each day.

To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn this evening. Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed.
