Five Dumb Q&A

I sometimes share questions I get from readers here on the blog and try to give answers that will help the person asking. But occasionally, I receive questions from people I am pretty sure are beyond help. These are all real, and all left me scratching my head.

Q. I bought a new pickup last October and it’s supposed to have a six foot bed. But when I measured the bed yesterday, it’s only 71 inches. I called the dealer and he said that was standard. Do I have any recourse for false advertising? What should I do?

A. The next time you go truck shopping, take a tape measure with you.

Q. Like you, I have been using a CPAP machine for a few months now, but I hate it. My AHI dropped from 27 in my sleep study down to an average of 1.7. I asked my doctor if I could stop using it now and she said if I did, my AHI will go right back up. Do you think she’s right, or should I stop using the CPAP and see what happens?

A. Your doctor and I have an agreement. I don’t give medical advice and she doesn’t write novels.

Q. It aggravates me that authors charge people for books even after they have been out for over a year, and they have new books out since then. You already made your money when a book is new. Why do you guys do this?

A. Because we are greedy SOBs.

Q. I want to take my grandsons with me on a three-week RV trip this summer, but their parents say no because they have other activities planned. I feel like my grandparents rights are being shortchanged and I am thinking about just taking the boys and going. Do you know of any lawyers that will help me get my grandparents rights if I do that?

A. No, but I can recommend a couple of good criminal defense attorneys.

Q. I have a great idea for a book that I know will be a blockbuster. Are you interested in writing it and we’ll share the profits?

A. Wow, you have just one idea? I have hundreds I’ll never live long enough to write.

And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.

Be sure to enter our latest Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of Dog’s Run, my mystery set in a small Ohio town in 1951. Of all the novels and nonfiction books I have out, I have to say that Dog’s Run is probably my favorite. It’s a gritty tale that is loosely based upon an actual crime that took place in that part of the country when my father was a young police officer there, and I warn you in advance that there’s some rough language, but it’s appropriate to the time and place. this is also the last audiobook code I have for this title, and I don’t know that I will be getting any more, so enter now because if you snooze, you lose.

To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening. Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed.

  1. Great answers, you must be Mr Abby!

  2. The comment section has been pretty quiet lately. If this blog doesn’t liven things up, I don’t know what will! 🙂

  3. What’s really sad is you can’t make this stuff up.

  4. YIKES! – These questions remind me of how concerned I should be in the event I’m faced with a trial by a jury of our peers?…..and these people likely vote Lol

  5. Nick,

  6. Re: Five dumb Q&A.
The scary thing is most of these folks have undoubtedly produced offspring and they are out there as well!

  7. In Texas, there is no such thing as grandparents rights unless one of the parents dies. I’m not sure there is a way to force a parent to let the child go on vacation with grandparents I don’t think there’s a lawyer that’s going to handle any of that. We’ve been sued for custody by my husbands ex-wife‘s parents and that did not turn out well for them.

  8. Now I realize what the crying/laughing emoji is for!
