We have been getting a lot of rain the last couple of days, and I’m not complaining about that at all because our lawn and citrus trees definitely needed it. Much of Florida has been in a drought for the last couple of years, so anytime Mother Nature decides to send some rain our way, it’s always nice.
It rained off and on Tuesday starting about noon, and then when we got up yesterday morning, there were heavy clouds overhead and I knew we were going to get more. And while we welcomed the rain, the only bad part of it was that we had to drive up to Jacksonville for Terry’s quarterly exam at the Mayo Clinic.
For the first part of our trip, it sprinkled off and on, not much more than enough to get the windshield wet. But the farther north we drove on Interstate 95, the darker the clouds became. It started raining pretty steadily a little south of Saint Augustine, and within another twenty miles or so, it was really pouring. Traffic was down to about forty miles per hour, but of course, I had some fool on my rear bumper flashing his headlights over and over again, trying to get me to move, even though every lane was full of vehicles and there was no place for me to go. Eventually, I was able to move over one lane and he flew into the space I had just vacated, then had to slam on his brakes to keep from hitting the vehicle that had been ahead of me. What did you accomplish there, fellow?
It had dropped off to just a shower again by the time we got to Mayo. We were glad that we left earlier than we normally do because we still just made it on time. Terry’s appointment was at 3:30, with check-in at 3:15, and we were out the door a little before 5, and that included getting some lab work done.
Driving back home, it was more of the same, showers off and on until we were just coming into the Daytona Beach area. Then the sky opened up and it came down in buckets, with visibility down to about one car’s length. Of course, that didn’t stop people from still wanting to drive at 75 miles an hour, so we got off at Tomoka Farms Road, a two-lane road that parallels the interstate highway, and followed it to Port Orange.
We stopped at Red Robin for dinner, and by the time we came out, the worst of the rain had passed, at least for a while. Since it was dark by then and I can’t see well at night, Terry drove the rest of the way home, taking US Highway 1 to avoid the crazy traffic on the interstate.
Today is supposed to be another rainy day, which is just fine with us. As I expected, they rescheduled my colonoscopy that was supposed to happen today because of the cough I still have. Hopefully I’ll get another chapter or two done in my new book today.
And finally, here’s a chuckle to start your day from the collection of funny signs we see in our travels and that our readers share with us.
It’s Thursday, so it’s time for a new Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of The Scribe’s Daughter, the first book in Stephanie Churchill’s Crowns of Destiny historical fantasy series about a young heroine who escapes a brutal prison to journey through imperial cities, dark swamps, and across stormy seas to unravel clues to the mysteries of her family’s past. In doing so, her discoveries make her the target of a man who would use her for his own dark ends. But first he has to catch her.
To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening. Note: Due to the high shipping cost of printed books and Amazon restrictions on e-books to foreign countries, only entries with US addresses and e-mail addresses are allowed.
Thought For The Day – I do all of my own stunts, but never intentionally.
Nick – I’m not sure of your email address so I’m sending this on an old post that I have saved. My publisher made a video about my book. URL: https://wp.me/p1hda7-bzP
Thanks. Tell me if you have seen it.
