Will They Make It?

With the recent cold snap we had here in Central Florida, Terry and I were worried about the citrus trees we planted last year. She went online and did some research, and the advice was to cover them with something to ground level to ward off the freezing temperatures. We did that, wrapping them in sheets lightly secured with bungees to keep them in place, and hoped for the best.

I’m not sure the best was good enough. This is what the lemon tree looks like now. It has lost many of its leaves, and a lot of those that remain are brown and wilted.

And this is the Key Lime tree. It doesn’t look quite as bad, but it still suffered some damage.

For some reason, the tangelo tree wasn’t affected as badly, so hopefully, it will survive. As for the rest of them, we don’t know if they will make it or not. We sure hope so after all the expense and effort we have put into them to this point.

Fortunately, it has warmed back up and we are supposed to see temperatures in the upper 70s for the next few days. What a big difference in such a short amount of time! I sure wish we would have had this weather when my daughter Tiffany and granddaughter Destiny were visiting us a couple of weeks ago, instead of the cold, windy crap we had for most of the days during their visit. Oh well, it is what it is, and they’ll be back. In fact, if the girls had their way, I’m pretty sure they’d be back right now.

One thing I’m not worried about is the survival of Amazon. While we try to shop locally as much as possible, we have not been to a Walmart in a couple of years, and there aren’t a lot of other local options for some things, so we shop online. These packages all came for Terry in one day. With customers like her, I’m sure that they will make it no matter what. Hey, honey, the first step in dealing with a problem is to admit you have one. 😊 I can’t complain. I do my fair share of ordering online, too. I figure if Amazon is going to pay me a bunch of money in book royalties every month, it’s only fair that I send some of it back to them, right?
