In a blog post a few days ago I posted a picture of our Laramie pickup after it had been ceramic coated by the nice folks at Global Mobile Detailing in Daytona Beach. It took them about three days to do the job and let it cure well, and when we picked the truck up, we dropped off the Mustang to have it done. Yesterday afternoon we went back and retrieved the Mustang and it looks gorgeous. These folks do an amazing job.

Of course, they were amazed that I have a 2018 Mustang with only 1,600 miles on it. We’ve put that many miles on the Laramie already, and we haven’t had it much more than a month. Thanks for doing an excellent job guys. We really appreciate it.

We have a Cove alarm system in our house with sensors on all exterior doors that will trigger the system if a door is opened while it is armed. I didn’t realize that besides the door sensors installed with it, the system also picks up the Arlo interior cameras we had installed previously.

When we came home from picking up the Mustang, I drove into the garage, not realizing that the camera there would alert, but it did. And for some reason, my phone didn’t ring when the security company called to make sure everything was okay. We turned off the alarm system with the remote control and went inside, and a few minutes later, two Volusia County deputies arrived. Just then, I saw a text message on my phone that police had been summoned in response to the alarm.

They were very nice while I apologized profusely for wasting their time, saying they would much rather come and find out it was a false alarm than arrive and find the place had been burglarized. I have a large collection of police badges mounted in several display frames on my office wall, and one of the deputies saw them, so I invited them inside to check them out. They were very impressed with that, and one said he wasn’t aware that it was legal for civilians to own police badges.

Myself and the other deputy told him that as long as they were not current issue badges, it was entirely legal. We chatted for a couple of minutes and then they left, apparently not noticing the Tommy gun sitting on a mount on top of my roll-top desk. If I were a cop coming into a strange house, that’s what I would be noticing, but that’s just me. 😊

I had seen a lot of talk about the movie The Power of the Dog. It received twelve Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director; along with seven Golden Globe nominations, winning Best Motion Picture –  Drama, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Director; and ten nominations at the 27th Critics Choice Awards, including Best Picture. Along with all that, it was named one of the best films of 2021 by the American Film Institute.  So when I saw it was on Netflix, I decided that we should check it out. That’s two hours of our lives we will never get back. How did something so bad possibly get so many award nominations? We kept watching, thinking it had to get better. It didn’t. So much for being such a highly nominated movie.

Today is your last chance to enter our Free Drawing for an audiobook of Gone The Next, the first book in my friend Ben Rehder’s Roy Ballard mystery series. Ben is one of my favorite authors, and if you aren’t a fan yet, you will be after reading any of his books.  To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn this evening. Thought For The Day Guys, when your wife starts a sentence with “when you get a chance” just go ahead and start putting your shoes on. She means now.

  1. We are watching season three of a Netflix series I think you would like called “Offspring”.

  2. I hate when we’re watching a movie that isn’t very good but we hang in waiting for it to get better, it never does!!grr I’ll never get that time back.

  3. Instead of a dog of a movie, Power of the dog, watch Dog when it arrives February 18th. You’ll like, or maybe love, this dog movie.

  4. Hey Nick, you are in Florida! Of course the cops aren’t going to pay any attention to a little old Tommy Gun! Lol

  5. We haven’t seen Power of the Dog, but we watched “Nomadland” last year with some anticipation, since my wife and I have been RVing since we met a little over 20 years ago. Sadly, we didn’t find it anything special. I guess there is no accounting for taste!

  6. Nick, the movie that earned the accolades is “Dog” not “The Power of the Dog”, that you watched.

  7. No Gail, it did receive all of those nominations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_of_the_Dog_(film)
