No, not 2021. That seemed to drag on forever, just like the previous year did. And though we are cautiously optimistic for the coming year, especially with so many folks getting vaccinated and boosted against COVID, now the Omicron version seems to be taking over. Will it all ever end?
Someone I know and respect, who is one of the most intelligent people I know, said a while back that all species seemed to come to an end except cockroaches. She suggested maybe this is the beginning of the end of the human race and that someday we will be gone just like the dinosaurs. Isn’t that a pleasant thought to start the new year?
But back to the title of today’s blog. The other day I said that I had ordered a new Lenovo ThinkPad Workstation laptop computer, and when I ordered it Wednesday night, I was told that it would be delivered this coming Tuesday. Then I got word Thursday morning that it had been shipped from Oregon, and yesterday morning I got a notice then it was on a UPS truck out for delivery. Then at 5 o’clock it arrived. I didn’t ask for any kind of expedited shipping, but I’m sure not going to complain.
I also mentioned in yesterday’s blog that I had some stories about my time selling cars if anyone was interested, and it turns out I got a lot of blog comments and e-mails saying that many of you are. So I’ll be sharing some of those experiences with you before too long.
Like so many, I was saddened to hear of the death of Betty White yesterday, just a couple of weeks before her 100th birthday. But my dear friend Bobbi Holmes, the author of the popular Haunting Danielle mystery series about a bed and breakfast on the Oregon coast, shared her perspective on Ms. White’s passing, and I found it comforting.
About the great newly departed Betty White…
I sincerely believe many of the (understandable) reactions to the news of Betty White’s death might be seeing it all wrong.
I don’t see this as a big F-you from 2021 as many of you see. No, I see this as Betty White deciding to start the new year on her next voyage.
Right now, I see her smiling, a much younger version, surrounded by all her friends and family that departed before her. But I imagine who she is most happy to see, are all the pets she loved during her lifetime, who have been patiently waiting for her on the other side.
I believe she’s taken with her all that spunk and vitality we knew her for, yet now, she is free of the burdensome 99-year old body.
Be happy for Betty White, we couldn’t keep her forever. She already gave us so much. I see her now, happy, laughing, and I imagine she is going to an amazing New Year’s Eve party.
Thank you Ms. White. Have fun on your next adventure.

Things get complicated when veteran CIA operative Jack Wilder is called upon to discreetly investigate the assassination of a high-level OPEC oil analyst on the verge of announcing a startling discovery, and then another body turns up, this one Wilder’s best friend, also an oil analyst. Stonewalled at every turn, Wilder struggles to find motives for the two murders even as more deaths occur as he gets closer to discovering the truth.
