Some Quick Q&A

I’m back with more questions from blog readers about RVing, what’s happening in our lives since we hung up the keys, and all kinds of other things. While I try to answer all questions individually, I also share some here occasionally.

Q. What kind of veggies will Terry be growing in her new hydroponic setup?
A. So far, she has pods planted for cherry tomatoes, salad greens, and several kinds of herbs.

Q. Why is it that sometimes I can’t get to your blog in the morning and get the old blog instead? The same with comments. Sometimes I can’t see them until the next day. It’s very frustrating.
A. Trust me, it’s very frustrating for me, too. GoDaddy always says it’s the reader’s fault and they need to clear their cache. But that doesn’t always solve the problem. Terry has to deal with this just about every day. I’m still trying to move from GoDaddy to another host, but there is a password that I can’t find and that they refuse to let me change until I can prove that I am me. I’ve jumped through every hoop they’ve sent me, and the next day they have another hoop. I wanted this to be over with a long time ago. It’s a real pain.

Q. I read about your new toys, the fancy microphone and digital recorder, and  Terry’s AeroGarden. It  must be nice to be able to afford toys like that when a lot of people can’t buy food for their families or pay their rent.
A. This was not actually a formal question, more of a comment made by a reader, but I think it deserves an answer. I may call them toys, but they are the tools of my trade. Would you chastise a mechanic for buying a socket set or an electrician for buying a meter he needed to do his job? But moving past that, I have never apologized for the fact that we bust our butts  and have been somewhat successful at it. You have no idea what we do for other people along the way. But at the same time, we can only do so much for others, and once in a while we choose to do things for ourselves.

Q. How come when I enter the contest, I don’t see my name, but when I try to enter again, it says I already have entered? What’s up with that?
A. Sometimes it takes a while for the program to refresh and add all the names in. But when you try to enter a second or third time, it assumes that you are spamming and blocks all of your entries. If you enter the contest and don’t see your name, hit the refresh button on your computer and see what happens. Or just be patient and wait a while. If you don’t see it within a few hours, send me a message and I will look into it.

Q. Nick, what are your thoughts on the COVID-19 vaccine? We are fulltime RVers and have been staying isolated as much as possible in one RV park for the last seven months. It seems like the RV community is split right down the middle about who will or will not take the vaccine when it becomes available. And some people have some wild claims to make about it.
A. Yes, I have heard all of those claims, too. They’re going to implant microchips in your body so they can track you. They’re going to alter your brain and turn you into a human robot. It’s going to put some kind of dye in your body that they can read with a special meter to tell if you’ve had the vaccine or not. Or, it will just kill you, and that’s why they’re starting with the old people first, to get them off of Social Security. I just looked outside, and the Sky isn’t falling. Terry I have no problem taking the vaccine and will gladly do so when it becomes available to us.

Q. Waiting eagerly with my finger poised on the buy button for your new book to come out. I’ve gotta go pee soon, so tell me when it will be out, Nick?
A. If you can hold it a while longer, do so. The book will be out sometime this weekend. It’s in the very last stage of making changes and formatting now.

Be sure to enter our latest Free Drawing. We have an awesome prize this week, an autographed copy of Learn Google Photos 2020 by Chris Guld from the Geeks on Tour. The book is loaded with easy to understand instructions on how to assemble your lifetime of photo and video memories in one place, and then how to use the program’s powerful tools to edit, organize, and share them, all for free. Chris is a Platinum Level Product Expert for Google Photos and she and her husband Jim have taught classes on  computer technology from coast to coast for years. To enter, click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name (first and last) in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. Unfortunately, our contests  are only open to people with a U.S. mailing address and e-mail address due to shipping costs and restrictions. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.

Thought For The Day – I miss the 90’s when bread was still good for you, and no one knew what kale was.

  1. You and Terri are to be admired for supporting yourselves in the manner that you choose, rather than disparaged for doing so. What you do (or do not) for others is entirely up to you.

  2. It’s your life and you work hard, do what you want with it. There are always going to be people around who want to tell others how to live their life, it looks to me like you’re happy and you’re not hurting others. Good enough!

  3. In answer to question #3 — you have no idea what Nick does for people — I will never forget his kindness and thoughtfulness when my husband passed away one year ago–he deserves all the toys he can get–he is good friend

  4. To whoever made the nasty comment about what Nick and Miss Terry spend their money on, bite me! First of all, it’s none of your business. Second, I like hearing about the things they use. It has inspired me to buy a Brevile oven a Sea Eagle kayak and other things. Nothing like hearing from a satisfied customer before making a purchase choice. And last but certainly not least. I have been at their RV rallies and seen the massive amounts of food Nick and Terry collected and donated to local food banks and seen the money raised for other good causes. When I had a family tragedy on the way to one of their rallies and had to cancel the day before arrival, they returned my rally fee. Nobody ever does that. When I was stuck at another really and did not have money to pay to be pulled out Nick paid it out of his own pocket for at least two of us. When a friend of mine was having a meltdown due to being overwhelmed by personal issues at an RV rally they were putting on Nick stopped what he was doing and put his arms around her and spent time assuring her she was not alone when he had a million other things to do and he never left her side until she was doing better. And I still carry one of Miss Terry’s pocket angels with me every day that she gave me when I was diagnosed with cancer. So whoever you are, shut your damn mouth!

  5. Hey Fred, and yes I know its you from hearing your constant bitching from next door and your jealousy because somebody knows how to write a book and you don’t. Pull your head out of your arse and get a life. I have never heard you say one good word about anybody but yourself. You could be Trump’s Siamese twin.

  6. Nick , don’t know if you miss spelled “cache ( cash) cause I know I don’t have cash and didn’t know that I might have cache . If I do, can you tell me which ATM I might be able to use to get me some cache . Also I’m hoping they do microchip the vaccine as that sure would take a lot of worry from me and when I go out and get lost all I would need to do is call the NSA and ask where I’m at . And one more thing. Remember a pat on the back is just a foot above a kick in the ass . PS keep pissing every one off as it make for very enjoyable read . May the force be with you.

  7. In regards to the statement about you having toys and some people don’t have food. I personally am getting VERY tired of people making these kinds of statements. Our world is full of people who WORK HARD for their money. It is their right to spend their money as they choose. And people in need of food and help have MANY avenues for help (both state and local government welfare, church and charitable groups, self help, get several part time jobs, etc. And no one knows how much people give to charity. That’s personal to each person. In our area we have a number of thrift shops that give food, clothing, walkers, wheel chairs, canes, furniture, stuff FREE to the real needy and not the users. And no one NEEDS to go hungry. My father saw people STARVE to death in China/India/Burma during WWII. No one is laying on the street begging for food in the morning as you pass by and DEAD when you go by in the evening. Americans are so blessed. We need to appreciate what we do have.
