RVers Boot Camp

If you are a new RVer or a wannabe RVer, I’ve got some very good news for you! The Escapees RV Club will be having one of their excellent RVers Boot Camps in the Dallas, Texas area this coming spring.

If you are not familiar with this excellent program, it was created by what I consider to be the best RV club in the world and carefully designed to give newbies the kind of valuable information they need to successfully hit the road.

The more than 20 hours of classes and seminars at Boot Camp include RV maintenance and operation, towing safety, tire and weight safety, basic RV systems, RV driving, motorhome towing, towable RVs, fire and life safety, personal safety for RVers, a fulltimers discussion panel, and a Q&A session.

There will also be special elective courses for new RVers, and breakfast and dinners where attendees can socialize, make new friends, and have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the instructors. Each couple attending the Boot Camp will also receive course handouts and a CD of “The RVer’s Ultimate Survival Guide.”

Terry and I are big believers in education for RVers. The first thing we did when we hit the road was go to the now defunct Life on Wheels for an intense weeklong crash course in RVing. The things we learned there were invaluable to us as we traveled the country. Later, after we had a few years of experience behind us, we were asked to become instructors for Life on Wheels, and for several years we traveled the circuit teaching classes at events around the country. We also did many seminars at Escapees RV rallies over the years. So believe me when I say this is something you don’t want to miss if you want to get a good start in the RV lifestyle. And even if you have been RVing for a while, it never hurts to take a refresher course.

The RVer’s Boot Camp will be held at Loyd Park – Joe Pool Lake Campground in Grand Prairie, Texas, March 9 – 11, 2018. You can get more information by clicking this Boot Camp Link or e-mailing bootcamp@escapees.com.

I said in yesterday’s blog that instead of getting involved in all of the Black Friday madness, I planned to park myself at my desk and write all day and that’s exactly what I did, knocking out another 5,600 words in my new Big Lake book. Last night I contacted Elizabeth Mackey, the talented young lady who does my book covers, as well as covers for many author friends of mine, and she’s going to be creating the cover next week. It won’t be long now, folks.

Speaking of books, my good buddy George Weir is giving away the e-book of Death On The Pedernales, the fifth book in his excellent Bill Travis mystery series, this weekend only on Amazon. George is one of my favorite authors, and if you haven’t read any of his books, do yourself a favor and download this one. You’re going to like it.

A lot of you do your online shopping by clicking this Amazon link or the Amazon Search box at the top right sidebar of this blog. We appreciate you using one of our links because when you purchase an item on Amazon any time of the year from one of our links, we earn a small commission, which helps us offset the cost of publishing the blog.

Be sure to enter our latest Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of Birdsongs, the first book in my friend Jason Deas’ excellent Benny James mystery series. To enter, all you have to do is click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.

Thought For The Day – Mail your packages early so the post office can lose them in time for Christmas.

  1. I’m in process of fixing a 13 ft fiberglass trailer to become my portable office to go on the road and write. Going slower than hoped, but it’s a fun project anyway. That said, I’m SO anti-social I’m not drawn to RV events. Now I’m off to download that free mystery!
