According to the weatherman, the worst of the summer weather is behind us and we can expect to see a cooling trend in the next week or so. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be cool, it’s just going to be less hot. It will be down in the low to mid 80s until Wednesday of this coming week, when they say we will actually see temperatures in the mid-70s for a couple of days before it starts creeping up to around 80° again. That’s okay, I’ll take what I can get.

The other day I took a break from writing and went down to check on our dock, which was torn up in Hurricane Irma, to see if any progress had been made on repairing it. Unfortunately, not. I am beginning to wonder if we will get any boating or shrimping in this winter. It’s not looking too promising at this point.

While I was down there I did luck out and see a manatee stretching its snout out of the water to nibble on the bushes near the boat launch. But every time I tried to get a picture of it I wasn’t fast enough and it ducked its head underwater. This ripple in the water and a distorted shape below the surface were all I could get. That’s okay, I still love seeing these gentle giants.

Other than that, and dinner out at Goodrich Seafoods Thursday night, most of my time has been spent parked at my computer working on the new issue of the Gypsy Journal. And that’s where I will be for a while yet.

Until I am finished with that and send it out to our subscribers, I have a couple of free books to tell you about from author friends of mine. Today and tomorrow (Saturday and Sunday), my buddy George Wier is giving away the Kindle version of Longnecks and Twisted Hearts, the third book in his excellent Bill Travis mystery series.

And Margot Armstrong is giving away the Kindle version of The RV Lifestyle: A Dream Come True from now until October 24. You just can’t beat free! Be sure to download your copies of both books.
