Birthday Girls

Before I do anything else today, I want to send out birthday greetings to some very special ladies. Today is my daughter Tiffany’s birthday. I won’t tell you how old she is, because I guess that is verboten, but just let me just say that when she was born I still had some hair and it was still brown. Happy birthday Tiffany, I love you.

And Tiffany is not the only birthday girl around! April seems to be a busy birthday month in our family. Yesterday, the 14th, was my daughter-in-law Geli’s birthday. And this coming Wednesday is my granddaughter Destiny’s birthday. And as they say in those late-night TV infomercials, but wait, there’s more! My two favorite cousins, Beverly McKiddy and Bernie Frees celebrate their birthdays on Thursday. Another lady celebrating her birthday on Thursday isn’t family, but we’ve known Sally Wagner for so long she almost seems like family. Well, except for the fact that she’s rather sane. Sanity is not a family trait for us. Happy birthday, ladies!

I took a break from my desk yesterday so we could drive into Daytona Beach and take care of some business, then have dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet, which is located just down the road from the Daytona International Speedway. It was as delicious as always.

Of course, being away meant that I had a lot of email to deal with when I got home. One was from somebody wanting to know why he got a message saying his entry was pending in our weekly drawing. If you haven’t entered before, and occasionally even when you have, your entry is held for approval by me. So if you enter and don’t see your name right away, don’t worry about it. As soon as I get to my computer I will approve you. Well, I will approve you unless you are somebody like a reader who complained the other day that her entry never makes it. No, and it never will. The rule states very clearly one entry per person. This lady has repeatedly tried to game the system by entering with half a dozen different names. She didn’t realize that her entry also shows me the email address, which is always the same for all of the names she uses. So now her entries go directly to spam. I hate to be a jerk about it, but everybody deserves an equal chance to win.

I also got a couple of emails asking questions that I get on a regular basis. One was from a reader wanting to know the name of the memory foam mattress we put in our Winnebago motorhome a while back (three years ago, actually), and if we still like it. It is the Night Therapy Elite 12″ MyGel® Ultimate Memory Foam Mattress. We like it so much that we bought two more, one for our bedroom and one for the guest bedroom here in the house. Here is a link to it on Amazon.

The other email was from someone wanting to know about Terry’s convection/toaster oven and if is she still happy with it. It is the Breville BOV800XL Smart Oven 1800-Watt Convection Toaster Oven, and yes, she loves it. She has had it for five or six years now and uses it a lot, and it is still working fine. In fact, she’s going to purchase another one for the house and put this one back in the motorhome before we hit the road. She uses it from everything from cooking roasts to making cookies, baking cakes and pies, bread, and just about anything else you can think of. It’s a real workhorse. Here is a link to it on Amazon. Terry tells me that there is an updated version available which has a light and a slow cooking feature. It is the Breville BOV845BSS Smart Oven Pro Convection Toaster Oven, and sells for $20 more. Here is it’s link on Amazon.

Another interesting email I received was from someone who wanted to know if I knew of any RV resorts right on the beach, or at least with a view of the beach, in Florida that have full hookup 50 amp RV sites, a swimming pool, good Wi-Fi, and with rates under $400 per month. I replied that I didn’t know of such a place, but I assured them that I would tell them about the second one I ever discover, because I plan to be parked in the first one!

Have you entered our latest Free Drawing yet? This week’s prize is an audiobook of Crazy Days In Big Lake, the third book in my Big Lake mystery series. To enter, all you have to do is click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.

  1. Nick,

Speaking of insanity, my family doesn’t suffer from insanity. In fact, we all seem to enjoy it!

Happy Easter, to you and Terry.

  2. For the person who wants all the amenities in an RV park on the ocean in Florida during any season for $400 or less a month – HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. I am constantly amazed, though after all these years I shouldn’t be, at people who want every thing for such low prices. Florida is POPULAR, people. The cost of land on the ocean is expensive and by the way, it’s FLORIDA which is one of the prime tourist destinations for not only Americans but Europeans and central and south Americans. Florida can write it’s own ticket and we do.
In the past (we don’t rent it out anymore) we rented out the extra lot we own in a nice RV resort in Florida and NOT on the water. It was $800/month plus electric plus 12% state tax and county resort tax. And that’s a deal in our resort. And I am noticing that in our travels in the eastern part of the US the prices for most CGs is starting to run in the $30/night range. So get Passport America or one of the discount camping memberships if you use it enough and get real about camping costs.

  3. LOVE my Breville since my rig doesn’t have a “real” oven. I even bought a second one for my house. I never use my big double ovens any more.

Cheaters will always try to cheat, then complain that you won’t LET them cheat!! Glad you kicked her out of the running!!

  4. Based on Terry’s review, I bought a Breville oven several years ago for my home. I love it and never use my regular oven. Thanks Miss Terry! Mary Lou
