We’re Getting There

I am sure that the next time we take a road trip in our Winnebago motorhome we are going to get great mileage. Because I think we’ve carried three or four tons of stuff out of it and into the house in the last couple of days. Moving is hard work and we are absolutely worn out, but we’re getting there. I think we’ll get the last of what’s left out of it today. Then we just need to figure out where the heck to put all of it here in the house!

I told you a while back about the hassle of trying to buy a recliner for Terry from Ashley Furniture in Daytona Beach, and how they wanted to stick it to us by making us pay a delivery charge even if we picked it up in the store. So I went online, found the same chair at another Ashley Furniture dealer for a whole lot less money even with their delivery charge, and ordered it.

They said the chair would be delivered sometime yesterday (Wednesday) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. But at 7:30 yesterday morning I got a phone call saying it would be there within an hour, and sure enough, it was. The two delivery guys were very courteous, made sure it was set up and working properly, and were gone by 8:35. Terry looks pretty comfortable in it, doesn’t she?

In one of our outings to the local used furniture stores, Terry found this beautiful bureau or cabinet, or whatever you want to call it, and picked it up for a very good price. It’s the perfect place for our living room TV. When my recliner gets delivered today I plan to spend some time sitting in it, enjoying both of them.

I also told you that on Saturday a tech from Bright House came out and installed our cable TV, but that we couldn’t get the Belkin wireless router I had bought to work to broadcast a WiFi signal through the house. Alas, by the next morning we were having all kinds of problems with the TV signals on both TVs. So I returned the Belkin router, bought a Linksys and on Tuesday, a new tech came out from Bright House. He ran a new line in from the pole outside and got the TV problem straightened out.

Then yesterday, I installed the new Linksys router and it’s working fine, too. The router is on my desk in my office on the north side of the house and I was able to pick up a good WiFi signal way over on the other side, even inside the attached garage.

What is not working is the network extender that Verizon sent and guaranteed would give us good telephone reception here at the house. It’s got four lights that are all supposed to be solid blue, but only two of them are. One of the others blinks red off and on, and the other stays red. I tried a couple of remedies their online tech support suggested, with no luck. So today I’ll try to call and get a real person to help me out with it.

It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for a new Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of Blood Honor, the debut novel in my friend Russell Blake’s The Day After Never post-apocalyptic trilogy. To enter, all you have to do is click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.

  1. That cabinet looks GREAT! SCORE one for Terri! Good find…. that was the fun part of when we decided to not be full time and get one more house. We had already sold the other house and all the furniture was gone. We got to collect things WE wanted to fit the style of the new house. Ya know things that had not been beat up by our teenagers over the years. It sure was fun to pick out things that suited our style and comfort and taste. Enjoy!

  2. Beautiful cabinet Miss Terry!! You’re going to get so comfortable you won’t want to travel any more … especially when you have to re-pack the rig before taking off!! LOL It really is nice to have a home base … you’re going to love it!!

  3. I’m sure you already know it, but Terry has good taste.

  4. NIck,

I had same problem with the network extenders. Went through 2. Store told me that they have been having problems with them. When I got a working one – it is great.

  5. Though we are not rv’ers in any big way I’ve enjoyed reading your blog for a year or so. I always get a chuckle from your humorous worldview and I’ve vicariously enjoyed your adventures on the road. It’s great to see you both getting settled into your new home and I hope having a home base satisfies the desire to have a sense of security for your future. I also hope you are able to acquire that pontoon you’ve been pining for. Best wishes for getting “settled in” soon, but the greedy me hopes you won’t get so settled you give up the road entirely. I very much enjoy your writing and this blog. Here’s to many happy years ahead!
