By yesterday afternoon it was not as noisy around here as it had been for the last few days. There are still a lot of Harleys here, but the RV park is starting to thin out as bikers who were here for Biketoberfest are leaving. But the folks in the office tell me it will quickly fill up again as snowbirds start to arrive to claim their seasonal sites.
Somebody said they would not feel safe being around that many bikers. I think they have watched too much television. This is not exactly Sons of Anarchy. Most of the folks here in town seem to be over age 50, so we’re seeing a lot more gray hair, beer bellies, and exposed sagging boobs than we are tattoos. Of course, that’s just the men.
In the afternoon we decided to go to the beach. It was a beautiful day, about 84° and there were only a few people out and about enjoying the beach. I thought it would be a lot more crowded.
This is one of our favorite places in Daytona Beach, Sunglow Fishing Pier. It’s kind of hard to tell in this before (top) and after (bottom) picture, but Hurricane Matthew took out 180 feet of the pier.
You can get a better perspective in these two pictures. They were both taken from the same spot, the top one on our last visit here back in May, and the bottom picture today.
Now the pier abruptly ends with this hastily thrown together blockade.
But that didn’t stop people from going fishing, and one fellow was doing very well. Somebody’s in for some good eating!
There is still a lot of roiled up sand and sludge in the water, as you can tell from this picture of the surf that I took from the pier.
After a visit to WalMart to pick up a few things, and then to Publix for some more, we made a quick stop at home to drop everything off, then we went to Texas Roadhouse for my birthday dinner, a day late. The food was delicious, the service was good, and I was with Miss Terry, so the company was wonderful. What more could a guy ask for?
I have found my tastes have changed quite a bit since I was hospitalized last November. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it or not, but before that I was a big beef eater and wanted a hamburger or steak several days a week. Now maybe once a week, at the most, is all I care for. Also, before that, Pepsi was my drug of choice, and I seldom drank less than three bottles a day, and often more. I have not had any since I went in the hospital on November 15, and I have not missed it at all. Weird, huh?
Congratulations Reynald Fortier, winner of our drawing for an audiobook of Caddo Cold, the seventh book in my pal George Wier’s excellent Bill Travis mystery series. We had 69 entries this time around. Stay tuned, a new contest starts soon.

Glad to hear that you are off the Pepsi. It’s a real killer! 🙂
Happy belated birthday Nick!
