After getting e-mails from readers who wanted to know how one gets approached by companies to do product reviews in response to my recent blog about the weBoost 4G RV Cell Phone Signal Booster Kit a couple of days ago in a blog post titled It’s Not That Easy, I talked about what it takes to produce a blog that will not only earn a significant amount of money, but one that will also attract companies that want to provide products for you to review.
Yesterday the content manager from WilsonAmplifiers.com posted a reply to that blog, which I am going to share here to give readers an idea of what the industry looks for when they go looking for blogs for product reviews. His comments are in italics below:
Hi Nick, I just want to add some additional insights. My name is James, I’m the content manager for Wilson Amplifiers. And everything you said is 110% right on the nose.
For digital marketers and content managers like myself, we often get inquiries about sending our products for free for an honest review. If I was sending out something like a book, then I could make an exception if I felt the person was genuinely authentic. But signal boosters cost hundreds of dollars. We need to know if it’s a good fit for the reviewer as well as ourselves, because it’s an investment for both parties.
For me to agree to send out a product, I need to know if this person is an influencer and for those starting out blogs, becoming a social media star, or Youtube personality, you need to have a strong presence.
When we contacted you about reviewing the RV4G, we did our due diligence and hopefully, some of these metrics can answer the questions these people have emailed you about:
– Does this person have a website or blog with good/engaging traffic?
– Is this person’s audience relevant to the people I’d like to speak to?
– Does this person have EAT (expertise, authority, trustworthiness)?
– Is this person active on social media and does he/she have an engaged audience?
– Is this a good & relevant fit between the both of us?
These are some of the questions we ask before reaching out. If there’s any takeaway, be authentic & be THE expert. And Nick is definitely that and that’s why we reached out to him.
As you can see, you can’t just throw up a blog and expect the money and the review offers to come rolling in. Companies research who they are going to approach to see if it’s worth their time and the investment in the products supplied.
