A Difficult Decision

It looks like we got out of Florida just in time. I heard from a couple of friends down there that tropical storm Colin has brought a lot of wind and rain to the Sunshine State. Meanwhile, here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, we’ve had some rain and it is still hot, but there has been hardly any wind at all.

In fact, I was disappointed because I wanted to introduce my son Travis to flying our quad line Revolution kite but the winds have been in the four mile per hour range at best, not exactly optimal for kite flying.

Not willing to let Mother Nature beat me, yesterday I brought out the simulator system I got from Revolution at the kite festival in Long Beach, Washington last summer. It is basically a set of three interlocking carbon poles with a very long bungee type cord attached to it. With the pole stuck in the ground and the Revolution kite hooked to the cord, you can demonstrate a few basic moves.

Terry is a better teacher than I am, so she explained the basics of launching and turning the kite to Travis.

Then she turned the handles over to him and he took to it quickly. It didn’t take him long at all to be able to launch it, and even turn and hover it sideways. I think we have brought a new flyer into the Revolution family.

Yesterday morning I sent out Issue #3 of my author’s newsletter to those who have subscribed to it, and I have already received some good feedback on it. Besides an article on using language that some might find offensive in a novel, and why I sometimes do that, I featured some new books and one freebie by author friends of mine, and included a short story by best-selling author Russell Blake. If you’d like to be included on the mailing list for the newsletter, just send me an email at editor@gypsyjournal.net.

After a lot of talk and heartache, Terry and I have had to make the difficult decision to cancel our trip to Essex Junction, Vermont, for the Escapade rally in July. I was scheduled to do several seminars at the rally and really hated to have to back out, but some things came up that just made it impossible to go. We’re sure going to miss it, and miss seeing so many of our Escapee extended family, but no matter how well we plan things, sometimes life gets in the way.

Today the things that we ordered for the hydroponic garden set up Travis wants to make should be delivered by Amazon, so I’m sure we will be busy helping him with that. I still haven’t figured out a way that he can grow ribeye steaks, cheeseburgers, or even chocolate milkshakes, but I’m doing a lot of research on it.

Thought For The Day – Our life does not always turn out the way we planned, but sometimes that’s because what we planned wasn’t supposed to be our life.
