I Saved Big Bucks!

I wrote in yesterday’s blog that there was a screw or bolt or something sticking out of one of the rear tires on our Explorer and that I had an appointment at a local tire shop to have it replaced, since it was too close to the sidewall to be patched. When I called to confirm that the replacement tire had arrived I was told it wasn’t there yet and they pushed the appointment back a couple of hours.

We headed for the shop at the appointed time, but I looked at the screw and realized that instead of going straight into the tire, it was at a horizontal angle. Hmm… I wonder. I tried wiggling it with the edge of a heavy knife blade and it came right out. As it turns out, it was only stuck in the tread and had not created a puncture. Spraying a soap solution on it did not reveal any leaks, and after running around doing some errands it was still fine when we got back home. I like saving money!

Sometime during the afternoon we heard a commotion outside and looked out to see a golf cart parade going past. Apparently the people who live here were celebrating the end of snowbird season or something. There must have been fifteen or twenty of them, some decorated and some just along for the ride.

My pal Chris Yust, who is parked a couple of rows in back of us, texted me and made me promise not to let her ever get old. Being the true friend I am, I vowed to knock her off if she even gets close to codgerville. Yeah, I’m that kind of guy.

Today Charles and I are going to a gun show in Sarasota, and John Huggins may tag along with us. And Terry and Chris are going to have a girls’ day out. Fun times.

Almost 260 people have already signed up for our latest Free Drawing. This week’s prize is a biggie! John and Kathy Huggins have donated a 16GB USB3 flash drive with all of the shows of their wildly popular Living the RV Dream podcast and their Radio Days recordings, along with show notes. Over 360 hours of RVing tips, wisdom and interviews with industry experts. But wait, there’s more! Also included on the flash drive are .pdf files of their books So, you want to be an RVer?’, So, You Want to be a Workamper?, and How to Survive an RV Show, and Have a Great Time Doing It. All of this together is a $135 value. How cool is that? To enter, all you have to do is click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.

Thought For the Day – If I had a dollar for every time a woman told me she wasn’t interested in me, there would be a lot more women interested in me!

  1. Hi Nick,
Just as a FYI about the USB drive for your drawing. I bought some 32GB USB drives that were USB 3 the other day and when I went to use them in my Dell laptop with only USB 2 ports, it wouldn’t recognize them but my tablet with a USB 3 port had no problem. I have a USB 3 hub and if I plugged the hub into my USB 2 port and had the USB 3 drive in the hub everything was cool and I could access them with my Dell laptop.

I am not sure if that only applies to the particular USB 3 drive or my Dell laptop but if the person that wins the prize could have an issue using them if their PC does not have a USB 3 port.
