Rainy Day Writing

There’s no better way to spend a cold rainy day then writing, and yesterday was a perfect day for it. It never got above the low 50s and it rained off and on until sometime in the late afternoon. The only time I went outside all day was to close our gray water valve so we would have enough water in our gray tank to flush the sewer hose out after I dump today.

Except for that, I spent the whole day working on my newest book, Black Friday, and by the time I knocked off about 10:30 last night, it was almost finished. I probably have 1000 or 1500 words to go, and I’ll wrap it up this morning. Then I’ll read it through to see how it flows and if I can spot any errors, and when I’m done with that I’ll print it out for Miss Terry to begin proofing. If all goes well I’ll have it out before Christmas. In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at the cover.

Speaking of my books, I got some great news last night. My mystery novel Big Lake Burning has been named one of the Most Popular Books of 2015 on Amazon. It’s a good thing I was inside when I found that out, because my head swelled so much I may have taken flight. In fact, if you see a pudgy piñata floating overhead, don’t be too quick with the sticks, just in case. I’m an old man and I bruise easily.

While I was busy writing yesterday, Terry was getting a new weaving job warped onto her loom. She enjoys weaving as much as I do writing, and the things she turns out are pure works of art. In tomorrow’s blog I’ll try to post a couple of pictures of the scarves that she just finished. I know a couple of people who are going to be very happy come Christmas morning!

Somebody who is into the fiber arts and is planning to go fulltime asked a while back how crowded it gets in our motorhome with Terry’s Baby Wolf loom, spinning wheel, and the rest of her equipment. Why you think I’m on a diet?

Actually, it does get a little bit crowded sometimes when she has the loom open and is in the middle of a project. But that’s okay. It’s not like we’re holding square dances in here or doing a lot of entertaining. And would I have told Picasso to get a smaller easel? I think not.

  1. Woo hoo! I’m impressed. Congratulations Nick that is an amazing accomplishment. I counted the listings and yours is number 12 in popularity in all of Amazon for the entire year. That’s like superstardom except that there are a lot more authors on Amazon than there are stars in Hollywood so it’s even harder to get there.

  2. I know you are buzy, but I just wanted to congratulate you on Amazon’s acknowledgement of how good a writer you truly are. I look so forward to each of your books..

  3. Congratulations on Big Lake Burning. Quite an accomplishment. I just wonder why they haven’t put all of your Big Lake series on the list along with Dogs Run. They are all the best in my opinion.

  4. Congratulations! I don’t think anyone who has read your books is surprised. Dogs Run is still my favorite.

  5. Good news. Can’t wait to give it a read. Yesterday was a pretty rainy and grey day here in Arizona. If it wasn’t for hosting two of my grandchildren last night, i would have gotten my next post finished. Here’s to a productive day today.

  6. Congratulations on you Amazon recognition. I am looking forward to reading Black Friday. I have enjoyed all your books especially Dogs Run.

  7. Congratulations Nick! That is quite an accomplishment. And to think, I knew him when……. LOL

  8. So when is the movie deal?

  9. With the millions of books on Amazon that is an amazing achievement. Miss Terry should bake you a cake or something. This is serious big time!

  10. I still remember when the first Big Lake book made the NY Times bestseller list. Has any author, let alone an independent author ever done that who wasn’t a major celebrity? And to think folks, we get to read Nick’s musings every day right here for free!

  11. Cool cover. Can’t wait to read it.

  12. Looking forward to a new book from you. That will be a good Christmas present from me to me.

  13. “I’m an old man and I bruise easily.” Hahaha…congrats on the honor and best wishes for future success. I know I’m late to the party but I’ll check out Amazon and figure out how to purchase a book or two of yours. Don’t usually have time to read so I don’t but am retiring this month…YAY…so will have more time for reading and dreaming about rv travel in my future…:-)
