A Rude Awakening!

There’s nothing like waking up to a cold drop of water hitting you in the face. And then another. At first I thought Miss Terry had woken up early and was drooling over me, but no such luck. It’s been raining since Tuesday evening and we had a leak in the slide right above our bed yesterday morning. We pulled the slide in, I wiped the top down to dry it out, and re-leveled the motorhome. Hopefully that will stop it.

Since the sheets were wet and I had to get up anyway, I spent most of the morning making some final changes to the formatting for the new digital edition of the Gypsy Journal. This issue includes some new improvements. Besides all color photos, it now includes a searchable table of contents, links to the places we visited, and the display ads are now links to that company’s business. Just click on them and it takes you right there. I’m sure I drove Miss Terry and Greg White crazy sending them sample copies over and over to see if the latest changes worked.

I finally got some last minute issues resolved and sent out the link to our digital subscribers in the afternoon. I immediately got several e-mails saying they really liked it, which makes all of the frustration worthwhile. A few reported that they could not get the links to work until they saved the PDF file to their computer, but most folks save it for future use anyway. It’s a work in progress folks, so there are a few links that still may not work yet. I’m learning this as I go.

Some people have asked when we will make the final transition away from the printed paper. We don’t have a firm date yet. Originally I had thought it would be next summer, but so many folks have already switched to the digital edition that we may move that up. The sooner we do, the sooner the workload and the expense of printing and mailing goes away.

And finally, when will it ever end? Should I be concerned that my ex-wife, who has been dead for over 4 years, is coming back from the grave wanting money? I got this e-mail yesterday from some scam artist:

DEAR FRIEND,

I have wait to seek your help until all other of my options have been exhausted. But now I find myself desperately in need of your assistance. I am here in Manila the Philippines doing good work with the Peace Corps. But due to terrible weather and flooding from recent typhoons I am stranded and without money for food or transportation home. So I call on you my dear friend if you could please help by sending me just 50$ US funds to Western Union care of the Best Western Hotel La Corona. I will of course make immediate restitution once I am safely home and this crisis has past.

I await your urgent response.
