Yesterday was a great day for me in many ways. Sunday we finished the new issue of the Gypsy Journal and I uploaded it to our printer’s web server, so I started the day with nothing I had to get done. By early afternoon I got an e-mail back from the printer saying they had gotten the files and at first glance everything looked good. They’ll go over them page by page, before they put it on the press just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
We made a run to EZ Auction Drop Off in Gearhart to pick up a couple of packages we had shipped there, since you can’t get packages here at the Seaside Thousand Trails. One of the packages contained something I’ve been wanting a long time, a GoPro camera. These little powerhouses take great still photos as well as video. Several kite fliers I know attach them to their kites for aerial photography. Besides that, I plan to use it as a dash cam and when we’re using our Sea Eagle kayaks.
As if that wasn’t enough, we got a nice surprise when we stopped at the Safeway to pick up a few things. I wanted some Tillamook strawberry ice cream, but there was none in stock. No problem, I figured we’d get it the next time around. We checked out and as we were leaving the store the new manager, Frank, thanked us for coming in and asked if we found everything we were looking for.
I told him everything but the ice cream, but that it was no problem, we’d get it the next time we were there. He insisted, over my objections three times, on giving us a free quart of Häagen-Dazs strawberry ice cream. He told us we came in looking for strawberry ice cream and he was going to make sure we got it! I offered to pay for it, but he said no, it was his gift to us. How cool is that? I’m thinking about going back today to say they did not have the ribeye steaks I wanted.
Once I know everything is okay with the paper, I’ll be reformatting it for the digital edition, replacing the black and white photos with color and adding internet links. I also want to make the table of contents searchable. This is a work in progress and it will probably take me an issue or two (or three or four) before I get it all set up the way I want. But readers who have switched from the print edition to the digital already say just having the photos in color is a major improvement.
Before we leave here later in the month I also want to get my new book finished. And we really, really want to get our kites up in the air! What the heck was I talking about, nothing to do?
Thought For The Day – Blessed is the man who, having nothing to say, abstains from giving us worthy evidence of the fact.
