As I wrote a few days ago, I purchased the home version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech to text software and I have to say, it’s working out very well. It has more than doubled my best day’s productivity at my two-finger typing rate. Yesterday was another 6,000 word day.
I started my current work in progress, Black Friday, August 15, and I was a little over 20K words into it when I got the new software last Friday. I’m over 38K words into it now. My goal was to turn out four books this year, and this one will meet that goal. At this rate, I may be able to put out yet another one before the year ends.
You may remember that I also reported that Miss Terry just got a Shark Rocket vacuum, after hearing good reports on it from several of our readers. She says she loves it. It has great suction and it was eye opening (in an embarrassing way) to see how much dirt it picked up from our carpet, which she has been over every day or two with her Dyson vacuum. The head of the Shark pivots to get into tight corners, and it has multiple attachments, including a motorized hand brush that is great for cleaning the fabric ceiling in our motorhome. She says it’s the best vacuum she’s ever had. It is not cordless, but she prefers that since the two Dysons she had kept cutting out every time she used them.
Yesterday I was talking to my friend John Huggins from Living the RV Dream and he told me that anyone planning to attend their RV rally in Bradenton, Florida October 21-25 has just five more days before the rally fee increases from $100 to $150. They have to do that to deal with last minute registrations after they have purchased food, door prizes, and supplies. There are only 10 spaces available, so don’t wait too long. You can e-mail John at [email protected] to register.

Thought For The Day – Why do they begin the evening news with ‘Good Evening’ and then proceed to tell you why it isn’t?
So glad to hear you are finally succeeding with dictation. I am amazed at the accuracy of today’s programs. Persistence pays.
Nick–As someone who both writes and speaks for a living, I have thought about the difference between the two. I have often been interested in computer dictation programs, and I really appreciate you sharing your experiences. Do you think your writing will change at all because you are speaking it instead of typing it?
Marshall, I am both a writer and a speaker giving seminars and workshops and have not had problems so far with either. As to whether my writing will change now that I’m dictating it, I hope not. I’ll know when Terry begins proofing it.
