We’ve belonged to the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA), Good Sam Club, Bus Nuts, and a few other RV clubs over the years, but we’ve dropped them all except for the very first one we joined, the Escapees RV Club. Based in Livingston, Texas, the Escapees provide all kinds of valuable resources for RVers, from an excellent mail forwarding service to a group of clean, friendly campgrounds, to a popular internet RV forum, to name just a very few of the reasons to become members. But for us, one of our favorite things are the Escapade RV rallies.

We always tell people that while we may belong to such and such RV club, we are Escapees. And Escapade is like a huge family reunion. Members come from every point of the compass to take part in a week of seminars, entertainment, socializing, and more fun than you can imagine. And it’s all happening now, right here in Tucson!

RVs were rolling into the Pima County Fairgrounds for the rally nonstop yesterday, and the hardworking volunteer parking crew did an amazing job of getting them in and parked.

Terry and I walked over to the vendor hall to check out our booth, which took a couple of hours because everywhere we went, people were stopping us to say hello, give us hugs, and chat. Like I said, it’s a big family reunion, and we love every minute of it.

We popped into the Boot Camp to see George Mayleben from the RV Driving School giving a seminar on safe RV driving.

One of the best things that any new or wannabe RVer can do is attend Boot Camp, a special program the Escapees hosts that brings some of the most recognized experts in the RV world together to give newbies a three day long in-depth introduction to the RV lifestyle. And if you can’t make it to Escapade, don’t worry. There will be a Boot Camp at the Escapees Raccoon Valley RV Park in Heiskell, Tennessee July 24 – 26, and again in Livingston, Texas November 13 – 15.

Jim and Chris Guld from Geeks on Tour are holding a pre-rally Camp Reboot that includes a class on Apple iPhones and iPads and another on Android phones and tablets. They always draw a crowd and will be holding other seminars during Escapade.

Today we will set up our vendor booth and get everything ready to open and start doing business Sunday morning. If you’re here, stop by and say hello.

In closing, Terry and I want to thank so many of you for your words of love and support after yesterday’s blog about her health scare. Life throws challenges at all of us, but you all help us know that we’re not alone.
