New Toys

A couple of months ago Terry ordered a book online from a nice lady named Tracy Kaestner who owns a place called Lone Star Loom Room in Houston, and Tracy invited her to stop in when we were in the area. But after dealing with Houston traffic on our way here from Livingston, Terry said she wasn’t in any hurry to get anywhere near the metropolis again. But when Greg and Jan White invited us to ride along with them to visit their daughter Brandy and her family in Katy, a western suburb, and Greg offered to take her to see Tracy too, Terry was quick to say yes.

I started the day checking out Greg’s new Karcher pressure washer and I was impressed that such a small unit had so much power and what a good job it did on Greg’s truck. It really cuts through the crud. Once he was done I used it to give our Ford Explorer a quick spray. I think Miss Terry really needs one of these for Valentine’s Day. Smile

Afterward, I drove down to the campground office to pick up a package that had been delivered that had my new UDI U818A Quadcopter and a Prism Quantum dual line stunt kite. I bought one of the same quadcopters a week or so ago and had it delivered to my son’s house in Tuscaloosa, but Travis immediately fell in love with it and I decided it should probably be his, so this was a replacement for me.

I have a couple of Revolution 1.5 SLE quad line stunt kites and a Prism Snapshot 1.9 speed foil, but I’ve wanted to get a dual line stunt kite for a while and the Quantum is an excellent choice for beginner to intermediate pilots. It’s large, with a seven foot wing span, it has a strong pull, is good in winds from 3 – 25 mph, and can take a lot of abuse. I’m really looking forward to getting both of my new toys in the air.

We left the campground a little before 2 p.m. and drove into Houston, dropping off Terry at Lone Star Loom Room. While she was visiting with Tracy, Greg, Jan, and I ran a couple of errands, and by the time we got back Terry was just finishing up. She got some nice cottolin yarn, which is a combination of cotton and linen, to make towels with, and three books she’s been looking for.

Greg and Jan have been praising a small family-run Vietnamese restaurant called Little V in nearby Katy for months, and we met Brandy, her husband Lowell, and their son Landon there for dinner. I have a terrible allergy to onions and they told the owner about it in advance. When we arrived she told me she was making me a "special dinner" and it was indeed special. A blend of thinly sliced grilled chicken over vermicelli with sauce. It was ten times past delicious! Terry had grilled shrimp and vermicelli with tons of freshly julienned vegetables and was amazed at how good it was. I’d drive 50 miles to eat there again. In fact, we drove that far to get there yesterday!

Today is supposed to be wet and cold, so I think it will be a good day for staying inside and working on the new issue of the Gypsy Journal. Unless the weatherman is wrong, in which case I’ll be outside playing with my new toys.

Today is your last chance to enter this week’s Free Drawing for an audiobook of Hostiles, the third book in John Daulton’s excellent Galactic Mage series. One reviewer has called it “a great blend of magic and science.” To enter, all you have to do is click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn this evening.
