I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but I think I’m going to survive this cold that has knocked me off my feet. I’ve had colds before, but this one has been the granddaddy of them all. Terry is a couple of days ahead of me in her recovery, and not as prone to sniveling as much as I am, so I’m pretty sure she’s tired of listening to me whine.
There were several people here at the Escapees Lone Star Corral Co-op who wanted to get together, but for the most part we’ve been keeping to ourselves so we won’t make everyone else sick, too. Our friends Mike and Elaine Loscher, who have a lot here, have been like a couple of mothering hens, making sure we had anything we needed and checking in on us every day. Thanks guys, we appreciate it.
We did have two visitors yesterday. Liz and Billy Kring drove over from their place in Sabinal and we got to spend an hour or so chatting with them. They are wonderful people and we are looking forward to getting back in the area and seeing them again. As I said in a blog a couple of days ago, Billy is a former Border Patrol agent and a prolific author. If you haven’t read his Hunter Kincaid mystery novels yet, check them out. He worked the border country he writes about and knows it like most of us know our own back yards.
A lot of you have been asking me about our friend Kathy Huggins, who had emergency surgery a few days ago. She had a herniated bowel and they had to remove about 95% of her small intestines. She is still in critical condition in a hospital in Alabama, but off the ventilator and holding her own. John said their RVing days are over, since she will need medical care the rest of her life. He plans to continue their popular Living The RV Dream podcasts and his Facebook groups. Folks, this is one more reminder that while we’re making other plans, life happens. I’m sure that both John and Kathy would agree with me when I say don’t wait too long to start living your own dreams, whatever they may be. Life can change in an instant.
It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time to kick off a new Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of Crazy Days in Big Lake, the third book in my Big Lake mystery series. To enter, all you have to do is click on this Free Drawing link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.
What are the odds that an ER nurse would travel halfway around the world to serve in a combat hospital only to meet a medevac helicopter pilot from the other side of her own hometown? Find out in The Promise by my friend Mona Ingram, a love story that stretches from the heat and grit of Kandahar to the cool mountains and endless beaches of Vancouver Island. It’s currently free on Amazon, Barnes & Nobel, iTunes, and Kobo.
