Winding Down

The year is winding down and I still don’t know where the heck it went. It seems like it was just January a couple of weeks ago, and here we are with Christmas behind us and we’re closing in fast on New Years’ Eve.

The same with our time here at the Orlando Thousand Trails preserve. We had really hoped to get our Sea Eagle kayaks out on Lake Hancock, which the campground has a launch with access to. Didn’t happen. We wanted to catch a movie or two. Didn’t happen. I wanted to get one of my kites in the air. Didn’t…. well, you get the idea.

Hopefully, once we get over to Three Flags we’ll manage to get some playing done. At least maybe we’ll get over to Homosassa and tour the wildlife refuge there, and maybe paddle our Sea Eagle kayaks into Three Sister Spring at Crystal River to see the manatee. We did that a few years ago and it was magical.

Yesterday was a busy day for both of us. I printed out the mailing labels for our print subscribers and then carried in big plastic post office tubs and bundles of papers from the Explorer. I tried to help Miss Terry with putting stamps on all of the envelopes, but she has it down to a science and anytime anybody tries to “help” all they do is slow down the process.

Finally she told me to do us both a favor and get out of the way and go write. She was right, of course, and by the time I knocked off for dinner I had another 3,100 words done in my next book. It’s moving right along and I’m on the downhill slope now.

As if working on the mailing all day long wasn’t enough, Terry also made a delicious dinner of smoked pork chops, baked potatoes, corn (for me) and a salad and fresh Brussels sprouts for her. How does she do it? I have no idea.

Today we’ll be back at it again. We’ve got to get those papers out of the back of the Explorer so we’ll have room to put our kayaks in.

  1. Glad we recently paddled our kayaks into Three Sisters Springs. The springs may soon be inaccessible in the winter months. See this article:
