Before I get into the blog, I want to wish a happy birthday to a very special young lady. Today our beautiful granddaughter Hailey turns twelve. Wow, where does the time go? Happy birthday Hailey. We love you!

Today is our last day at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort and I don’t know where the last two weeks went. There was a lot more we wanted to get done but we ran out of time and energy.

We had planned to make a day trip to Charleston and wanted to get back down to Savannah again but I guess we’re getting old because since we mailed out the new issue Monday, all we have done is stay home and veg out. I got a lot of writing done and Terry caught up on bookkeeping. I don’t think that chore ever ends.

We also watched a lot of local TV, and I’ll sure be happy when the midterm elections are over and they stop running campaign commercials on the television every other minute. I’m getting nostalgic for the TV commercials from attorney’s wanting us to sue somebody for something!

Several of you have asked me if I think Dish Network is ever going to restore distant network service for fulltimers, which we all lost when All American Direct went out of business back in February. At that time somebody at Dish media relations told me that they were in negotiation with several companies to provide DNS service to qualifying Dish customers. Time has proven that to be untrue. And after stringing me along for a couple of months they would not even take my calls. Short of replacing or converting our Wingard Trav’ler to receive DirecTV, we have adjusted to contacting Dish each time we move and having them switch us to the local networks. It’s a pain and I miss having both east and west network feeds, but it is what it is.

I have to brag a little bit here. As of last night, Big Lake books currently occupy three out of the top four positions in their category on Amazon. And the other two books in the series occupy positions #28 and #71 in their category! And it’s all due to you folks, who read my books, leave reviews, and tell your friends about them. I appreciate you helping spread the word.

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time to start a new Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of Rift in the Races, Book 2 in my friend John Daulton’s Galactic Mage Series. To enter, all you have to do is click on the Free Drawings link or the tab at the top of this page and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.

  1. Congrats on the Amazon book sweep. We have to tell you that we really enjoy the Big Lake series and are looking forward to the next installment.
    Have a great day.

  2. Darn Nick, congratulations on the books. Will you still talk to us “little people” when all of the books reach the top? LOL

  3. congratulations on the success of your books we have them all. Also what a beautiful young lady your granddaughter is. Hard to believe she is 12yrs old already, all I can say is daddy better have the shotgun handy to show all her future boyfriends that they had better treat his daughter right.

  4. That is good news about your books, Nick! As to working with Dish, I have found it is easier and more reliable if I use their online Tech Chat to make the request. I have a short paragraph that I copy from a file each time, replacing the address with the new one. “Hello ____. We have your DISH service in our motorhome and need to have you change our service address to 25803 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu CA 90265 so we can get the local channels.” That gets the job done, usually in less than a minute. After pasting it into the chat box I replace the ____ with the person’s first name who handled this chat.

  5. Great idea, Dave, I’m stealing it for the next time we move locations.

  6. Nik if u change to Direct TV you cannot get both coast network Tv. I use to have NY and LA and DTV told me that I need to make a choice.,But they could change back and forth with a phone call. I chose NY since I am over here and never had a reason to change. I have my DTV account in northern Michigan where TV is none exestant.. I watch all network station from NY at home and the RV. I never watch local stations since I don’t know who what or where they are talking about when we are on the RV. Cost, $10.00 a month.
