The combined FMCA GLAMARAMA/Fleetwood rally is going on at the fairgrounds in Goshen and Greg and Jan wanted to check it out so we rode down there with them yesterday morning. I don’t think we’ve ever been to a rally that we weren’t putting on or working as vendors, so it felt kind of strange. But a lot of our vendor friends were there, including Jim and Chris Guld from Geeks on Tour and Mac and Annie McCoy in their RV Fire Safety booth, and we got to visit with some of them.

As I wrote a while back, my Droid Razr Maxx is on its last legs and the folks at the local Verizon store told me that if I upgraded the phone I would lose my unlimited data plan, which I really don’t want to do. So it looked like my only option was to pay full retail for a new phone, which I didn’t want to do either. (Yeah, I know, I want to have my cake and eat it. too.) I knew there was away around all that and I knew that there were a few Verizon stores where other RVers had accomplished it, but the ones I had talked to all just wanted to sell me a new phone at full retail.

A gentleman named Ryan Maharg was a vendor at the Escapees rally and set several people we know up with new phones and saved their unlimited plans, but I didn’t know about it until after the rally was over. So I was thrilled to see Ryan at the rally yesterday, and sure enough, in about a half hour he had me in a new Samsung Galaxy S5 phone and I still have my unlimited data plan. If you are an RVer in the same situation, give Ryan a call at (740) 403-8414 and he will take care of you. He understands the RV lifestyle and has carved out a niche for himself serving our needs. Thanks Ryan!

The S5 phone is almost identical to my new Galaxy Tab 4 in the way it works and has many of the same features, so it will be great to have a phone and tablet that are so compatible. And like the tablet, the phone is not a toy. I know, because this time I told Miss Terry so! Smile

When we left the rally, we were all ready for a late lunch and when we’re in Goshen our first choice is always the South Side Diner. This is a traditional diner that looks like it’s stuck in the 50s or 60s and we have never had a bad meal there. That’s why it was featured on the TV show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and why people gladly drive an hour or more to eat there.

Back at Elkhart Campground I spent some time catching up on the e-mail that had come in while we were out and then our pal Sandi Swanson stopped in for a quick visit. We look forward to getting together for dinner with Sandi and Bob while they’re here.

The wind had been blowing briskly for a couple of hours so after Sandi left I went to the big open field in front of Total Value RV, which is next door to Elkhart Campground, to see if I could get in some flying time with my Prism Snapshot 1.9 speed foil. I got a few minutes of good flying in, but wouldn’t you know it, just as I was getting into it the wind started to die down. Oh well, there’s always today, or tomorrow.
