I’m sorry, but this is going to be a short blog. Soon after we got up yesterday I called my friend Jim Lewis to see how his wife Shar was doing, since she had been readmitted to the hospital the day before. I knew from the sound of his voice the news wasn’t good, and when he said he needed us there we headed right out.
The decision has been made to stop all treatment except for palliative care and hospice, and Jim had to make the hard choice of instructing the medical staff not to resuscitate or use any heroic measures to prolong her life when the time comes. So now it’s basically a vigil. I may not be online very much as this plays out, because our first priority at this time is to be there for both Jim and Shar. So if there is not a blog tomorrow, or if I don’t answer e-mails as quickly as normal, please understand. And if you could hold off on any but essential e-mails to us for the next few days, it would be appreciated.
Meanwhile, don’t forget our Free Drawing. This week’s prize is an audiobook of The Last Call, a Bill Travis mystery by my friend, bestselling author George Weir. All you have to do is click on the Free Drawing link and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.
Thought For The Day – Never pass up the opportunity to tell the people you love how much they mean to you. Tomorrow may be too late.
