Snowbird Hair

At first glance I may look bald to you, and to be honest I thought I was bald. But as it turns out, I was wrong. I’m not bald after all, I have snowbird hair. I haven’t lost any of my hair, it just migrated south several winters ago and never came back.

Seriously, I woke up one day and my eyebrows had taken on a life of their own and looked like two huge caterpillars on crack, and what’s with the hair in my ears? It’s like I’m wearing ear muffs, but it’s all me. And I swear, last week something was tickling my nose and it was a hair reaching around from somewhere back on my left shoulder to say hello! I’m beginning to think Miss Terry is sprinkling my bath towel with Miracle-Gro!

I worked on the new issue of the Gypsy Journal most of the day yesterday, and then we went to Famous Dave’s with Charles and Chris Yust to meet our friends Dennis and Carol Hill for dinner. Nice shirt, Dennis!

And here are two very pretty ladies and good pals, Chris and Miss Terry!

The food was good and the conversation around the table was even better. We had not seen Dennis and Carol in quite a while, so it was nice to get together with them again.

The other day I was talking to somebody who was complaining that to go to Alaska this summer they had to have their two dogs’ shot records. She said they "never wasted money on shots and things like that." I told her in that case, she shouldn’t have an animal. Anybody who is too cheap to provide their pets with the proper care should not be allowed to own them. And speaking of animals, here is a blog post on hookworms that every dog owner should read.

Great news! The audiobook of Dog’s Run is now available on Audible.com, Amazon and iTunes. Narrator Eric G. Dove did an excellent job on it and I’m delighted with the results. Eric has narrated 89 audiobooks for some of the biggest names around, including J.R. Ward, W.E.B. Griffin, Greg Iles, and Stephen Coonts to name just a few.

  1. Wow, I believe it is the LAW to get rabies shots on your cats and dogs. Every year. Unbelievable how some people treat their animals.

You should host another blog for all these things people email you about..

    The Confessions of Idiots!

  2. That’s just one reason I read your blog daily, you don’t mince words. Continue telling it like it is Nick.

  3. RIGHT ON NICK!!! If you ever saw dogs with rabies or parvo as I have, believe me, you would ALWAYS get your pets vaccinated. Low cost vaccinations are available everywhere. PLEASE love them enough to take care of them. Ok, I’m stepping off my soapbox now!!

  4. Ha ha! Hair going south. I, who was determine to stay ‘au naturel,’ and loved the defined shape of my eyebrows, now get them waxed and trimmed regularly to avoid the Uncle Festus look. My almost hair free husband now has arms that feel like a bearskin.. I wonder if we use to much fertilizer on our garden veggies.

    Blessings

  5. Our local animal shelter got hit with parvo, probably from a dog they picked up. I don’t even want to guess how many dogs got put down, or how long before they could even take dogs in again. They’d just started a new regime to help get the dogs adopted out, and we adopted one, and then they got hit. We haven’t seen them out with dogs to adopt since, and that was three or four years ago. Parvo is NASTY!

  6. If your eyebrow hairs are going in odd directions, instead of laying flat as they always did, you need to have your thyroid checked. And insist upon the test that tells what both the T3 and T4 are doing (sometimes one is working and the other not, or both are not…in spite of thyroid being made…it does not get used properly). Other signs of thyroid besides low energy, is trouble with the body thermostat, and dry skin…especially on the feet, in ways it never was before. Hubby did not show up very much on tests, but with low meds is being helped to feel better. But the standard little test added into the chemistry screen is really not good…it will only pick up if you are really bad. The research we did indicated that we will NEVER get control of our diabetes if the thyroid is whacked…that is what got us going on that…our meds and diet, etc. were not working well enough. So many things to consider in keeping the complex body working ok!!
