It’s that time of year again, and the snowbirds will start leaving their roosts in the sunbelt over the next few weeks headed back north or out for their summer travels. If that includes you, please do me a favor and send us an e-mail or a card with your summer address. Every year we have subscribers who forget and then don’t get their paper because the post office doesn’t forward them or they don’t leave a forwarding address.
I finished the new issue of the Gypsy Journal yesterday and Miss Terry proofed it last night, now it’s at our printer in Michigan getting a final proofing before they put it on the press. Once I hear back from the printer that everything is okay I’ll be sending out the link to the digital issue to our subscribers. It always gives us a nice sense of accomplishment to get another issue done.
After I finished the paper, Chris and Charles came over with a platter of grilled tri-tip, and Miss Terry had prepared baked potatoes and vegetables to go with it, and then freshly baked brownies for dessert. I’ll never be a thin man!
Now that the paper is done, I’ll take advantage of the time before the printed copies get shipped to us to get some more work done on my next Big Lake novel. But first I have a huge backlog of e-mails to wade through. If you’ve e-mailed me in the last few days and I have not responded to you, I apologize and I appreciate your patience.
Well, it’s Wednesday, and that means it’s time for a new contest! This week’s Free Drawing is for an audiobook version of Big Lake Lynching, the second book in my Big Lake mystery series. All you have to do is click on the Free Drawing link and enter your name in the comments section at the bottom of that page (not this one). Only one entry per person per drawing please, and you must enter with your real name. To prevent spam or multiple entries, the names of cartoon or movie characters are not allowed. The winner will be drawn Sunday evening.
A couple of blog readers have asked how long I plan to continue these free drawings. Don’t worry, you will have plenty of opportunities to win. Between myself and my many author friends, we’ll keep them coming for as long as people continue to enter.
And here’s a deal that’s too good to be true. For the next few days my friend Judy Howard is giving away not one, but two free e-books! That’s right, for a limited time you can get Judy’s excellent Coast To Coast With A Cat And A Ghost and the sequel Going Home With A Cat And A Ghost free on Amazon. It’s Judy’s way of thanking her many fans for their support. If you don’t download any other books this week, get these two. I guarantee you’ll be glad you did.
Thought For The Day – While most people are dreaming of success, winners wake up and work hard to achieve it.

Nick Thin is so overrated. Ya know this is why that comfy chair company makes those large lay-back units!… They want us to fill them. One of our Cats used to get next to my hip when I was in it reading. I told her the other night to go find her own chair because she is gaining width!…
