After I wrote about it being cold here in Apache Junction but nice and warm in Florida this winter, blog reader Josh Cashman sent me a photo of the thermometer under his motorhome’s awning, showing 80 degrees in Hollywood, Florida, and Josh wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Yeah, Josh, rub it in! Meanwhile it’s going to be in the 30s overnight here most of this week.

Yesterday we drove across town to Editha House, a wonderful resource for people dealing with cancer, in Phoenix. Our friends Sharleen and Jim are staying there while she is being treated for a brain tumor and it is amazing how much this nonprofit organization accomplishes on a small budget without any government funding. Thousands of people read this blog every day, and this week I wish all of you would consider passing up on a stop at Starbucks just once and donate that money to Editha House instead. If each of us donates just $5 we can help them provide comfortable, safe shelter for people like Jim and Sharleen who are facing terrible health problems.
It was Jim’s birthday, so we went to dinner at Red Devil pizza. The food was good, but I’ve been so spoiled by Miss Terry’s delicious pizza that anything else doesn’t measure up. Here is a picture of Jim and Sharleen. Can you believe that this beautiful lady had two separate brain surgeries in the last week? She’s been through a lot and has a hard road ahead of her, but she has a positive outlook and is doing very well. We feel so fortunate that our mobile lifestyle has allowed us to be here for Sharleen and Jim as they fight this battle.
When I see how well Sharleen has dealt with this challenge, I feel like an absolute wimp for sniveling about the Fluorouracil treatment I’m undergoing. It’s been pretty miserable, but I only have four more days to go. I will be really happy to put this behind me.

Ronald McDonald house is another place that makes life easier for the parents when they have an ill child. In my younger days I belonged to a woman’s group that sent over toilet paper and paper towels by the case to the one in Seattle. This was a great gift idea you had Nick.
